DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD

Quality:
***
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD follows Dora as a teenager who has been sent to the big city to get the full high school experience, but when her parents get lost in the South American jungle, she must go help save them. DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD is a cute movie that younger audiences will enjoy, but it does have some false religion references and some politically correct comments.

BLINDED BY THE LIGHT

Quality:
****
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
BLINDED BY THE LIGHT is a toe tapping musical about a 16-year-old Pakistan immigrant in England in 1987, who’s disgruntled by his father’s disciplinarian style of parenting but who discovers the joys of Bruce Springsteen’s music, which encourages the boy to pursue his own path. BLINDED BY THE LIGHT is a delightful piece of entertainment where the boy learns to respect his father, and the father learns to acknowledge his son’s writing talent, but contains some foul language, references to the family’s Muslim background and some political attacks on Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s rule.

COLD WAR

Quality:
**
Content:
-2 Extreme caution for older teenagers and adults.
COLD WAR is a Polish drama about the on and off romance between a female singer and a musician in Poland and France, set against the backdrop of the Cold War between the East and the West, from 1949 to 1964. COLD WAR has some interesting character dynamics and a message pointing out the evils of big government socialist oppression, but the movie could have benefitted from a more cohesive plot structure, less ambiguity, and a more inspiring tone.
