More Detail:

In the movie BRAINSCAN, high-school misfit Michael purchases an interactive CD computer game called BRAINSCAN and takes an “interactive journey through hell.” The object of the game is for Michael to commit a brutal murder without leaving any clues. The computer’s voice guides Michael to his first murder victim, a sleeping man, whom Michael stabs repeatedly, then cuts off his foot. Seeing the blood, Michael realizes BRAINSCAN is more than a game. Playing through three more discs, Michael kills three more individuals. When Michael is told to kill his girl friend, he hesitates and a policeman catches him and tells him, “Murderer!” The game is over. Michael wakes up and realizes all that had happened was just part of the game.

At one point, there is hope for a moral turning point in Michael’s life where he would change, but that never happens. After the game ends, Michael decides to get revenge on his principal for banning the Horror Club which he leads. In the movie, a character named Trickster, who represents the devil, down plays evil by making it appear comic. At one point, Trickster actually takes over Michael’s body, making Michael appear and talk like he is demon-possessed. Even though the idea for the movie is creative, and the cinematography excellent, the underlying evil schemes of Trickster make BRAINSCAN unbearable to watch.
