More Detail:

DON’T BREATHE is an extremely intense thriller about three thieves who enter a blind veteran’s house to steal a couple million dollars he received after his daughter was killed by a rich drunk driver. DON’T BREATHE may be the most intense thriller of the past decade, but it’s rated R and sends a mixed moral message where people are punished for their crimes, but several people also rewarded, with lots of strong foul language, a couple lewd, repulsive twists, and very strong, often scary, violence.

Three young thieves in Detroit, a woman and two men, plan to sneak into the isolated home of a blind veteran, who’s reportedly hiding $2 million from a settlement with a rich family after his daughter was killed by a drunk driver. The younger of the two men is reluctant to do the job, even though the man’s home is surrounded by abandoned houses in a rundown Detroit neighborhood. However, he’s smitten by the female thief, who desperately wants to leave Detroit with her younger sister; so, he goes along with the plan.

That night, the thieves break into the veteran’s home, but the blind man manages to kill the older male thief. The woman and the younger man hide, but the blind vet manages to block their escape and starts to hunt them down. An extremely tense game of cat and mouse ensues.

DON’T BREATHE may be the most intense thriller of the past decade. At times, it’s shot like a horror movie as the three thieves move around the old man’s house, including his basement, and he comes after them violently. It turns out the blind veteran is hiding a secret showing that he himself is not just an innocent victim. This increases the stakes in the movie, because once this is revealed, it becomes clear he will do anything to keep his secret. The blind vet also has a scary guard dog that eventually wakes up after the sedative the three thieves gave him wears off.

DON’T BREATHE’s main characters are well rounded. They have their good points and their bad points. After awhile, you just want the two remaining thieves to get out of the house and away from the blind veteran, even though you sympathize with the veteran because of his daughter’s loss.

Although it’s very well crafted, DON’T BREATHE sends some mixed messages. In one way or another, all of the main characters are punished for the bad things they do. However, a couple of them also get away with a couple crimes at the end. In fact, they are rewarded, though one of the rewards is not as good as the other one.

DON’T BREATHE also contains lots of strong foul language, including many “f” words and one strong profanity. Secondly, the intense fighting between the old man and the two remaining thieves contains several very scary, very violent moments. Finally, a couple lewd twists in the movie’s second half are a bit gross and repulsive.

All in all, therefore, DON’T BREATHE may be extremely well crafted, but its negative content becomes excessive and unacceptable.
