What You Need To Know:
FREAKIER FRIDAY is entertaining, featuring quick and witty writing with a dash of goofy fun. It contains a redemptive Christian worldview about family dynamics and the importance of selfless acts. However, there are elements of false religion as it presents the notion that souls can swap bodies, which Christian theology proves to be untrue. There are also occult elements as a psychic palm reader initiates the body-swapping experience. Overall, the story tackles the complex topic of letting go while learning to forgive and accept those around you. FREAKIER FRIDAY is a heartwarming movie and a fun sequel to FREAKY FRIDAY. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children, including teenagers and sensitive adults, due to the occult elements, some crude humor, light language, and sexual innuendo.

More Detail:
FREAKIER FRIDAY is a sequel to the 2003 Disney movie FREAKY FRIDAY that revisits the classic characters Tess and Anna as they navigate another body switching experience with an unexpected twist. Anna is now an adult with a daughter, named Harper, and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily. Through many hilarious predicaments, the women learn about communication, understanding one another, and moving on.
When single mom Anna falls in love with her daughter Harper’s arch enemy Lily’s father, Eric, trouble is sure to arise. Supportive grandma, Tess, adds comedic relief as they grapple with Anna and Luke’s engagement and possible move to London. At Anna’s bridal shower, Tess and Anna speak to Madam Gem, a goofy multi-hyphenated jobbed psychic, who senses they have walked in each other’s shoes before. Harper and Lily also visit the psychic, who tells them to “Change the hearts you know are wrong, to find the place where you belong.”
When the clock strikes midnight, the four characters switch into each other’s bodies. Anna swaps bodies with her daughter Harper, and Tess swaps with Lily, forcing the women to live each other’s lives. Harper and Lily decide the psychic’s words meant they are supposed to sabotage their parents’ wedding. Secretly, they plan to break up their parents. Through many hilarious scenarios, the women learn that love and sacrifice are more important than their selfish desires. After many lessons learned, the women find themselves back in their old bodies with a new perspective.
FREAKIER FRIDAY is a very entertaining movie. The writing is quick and witty, with a dash of goofy fun. The California location offers a beautiful backdrop to the action. The movie features great acting from leads Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as the supporting actors. The costume and set design create an immersive world that embellishes a relatable atmosphere. Though the beginning of the film moves a bit slowly, leading up to the switch, the rest of the story quickly makes up for the slower moments with laughter. Despite a few unclean camera transitions that may pull some audiences out of the action, the plot was entertaining enough to keep viewers engaged.
FREAKIER FRIDAY contains a redemptive Christian worldview focusing on family dynamics and the importance of selfless acts. However, there are elements of false religion as it presents the notion that souls can swap bodies, which Christian theology proves is untrue. The movie also contains occult elements as the psychic palm reader speaks words over the characters, which is the gimmick used to initiate the body-swapping experience. While Madam Gem is extremely goofy and holds down many different jobs other than being a psychic, which is a gag throughout the film, the notion of characters turning to a palm reader for answers is problematic.
Overall, the story tackles the complex topic of letting go while learning to forgive and accept those around you. FREAKIER FRIDAY is a heartwarming movie filled with plenty of laughs and a fun sequel to FREAKY FRIDAY.
