Also written and directed by Preston Sturges, this movie features the incomparable Eddie Bracken as a sad-sack, 4F draft reject who tries to live up to his father’s military reputation and learns about real truth and real heroism from his interaction with a pack of United States Marines. A hilarious, ultimately extremely patriotic American movie with great performances all around, not only by Eddie Bracken but also by the great William Demarest, who played “Uncle Charlie” on television’s MY THREE SONS.
