What You Need To Know:

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 is the sequel to a popular movie. Andy, played by Anne Hathaway, has just received a journalism award, but finds out she’s been fired. Meanwhile, Runway magazine needs to be revamped because several hit pieces have attacked the magazine and its editor, Miranda, Andy’s former nemesis played by Meryl Streep. The magazine’s owner sees Andy’s viral video and hires her. Can Andy and Miranda work well together?

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 has a mixed worldview. The main character is a positive, moral, compassionate person who thinks of others. Meryl Steep’s character, however, isn’t so nice. THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 also has some foul language and light references to pre-marital affairs. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.

More Detail:

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 is the sequel to the very successful movie THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. Although the fashion is fantastic, overall this movie does not have as much charm and direction as the first. THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA has a mixed worldview and does have some positive elements of doing things for the benefit of others, but with some humanist commentary.

Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, has just received an award for journalism, but right before she goes up, she finds out she’s been fired. Her speech becomes viral, because she complains about journalists being fired and Artificial Intelligence, AI, taking over everything.

Meanwhile, Runway magazine needs to be revamped because several hit pieces have attacked the magazine and its editor, Miranda Priestly, Andy’s former nemesis played by Meryl Streep. The owner of the magazine, Irv, sees Andy’s viral video and decides to hire her to help Runway.

When Andy walks in to say hi to Miranda, remembering the years she was an assistant for her, Miranda pretends not to remember Andy. In fact, she wants to give Andy a hard time for her being hired by Irv and taking over the features department.

Andy tries to figure out how to navigate the fashion world once again. Of course, her old friend at the magazine, Nigel, tries to help her with her style and outfits. The first thing Andy does is go with Miranda and Nigel to Dior to try to help keep Dior as clients who buy ads from the magazine. When they arrive, they see Emily is now a key person at Dior. Andy knows Emily because they both worked as Miranda’s assistants years ago.

Will Andy be able to write articles that people read and bring views to the publication? Will Runway be saved from potential ownership change or layoffs? Will there be backstabbing and people trying to get ahead at the expense of others?

Certainly the best part of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 is the fabulous fashion. Every scene has wonderful visuals of beautiful, stylish clothing. However, the movie doesn’t have as much charm and humor as the first movie. Also, no central storyline is established, resulting in a weak plot and story. Though this is the case, the casting is perfect. It features solid performances by Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and Kenneth Branagh. Each character has their own depth and glamour.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 has a mixed worldview. Andy, the sympathetic main character, has a moral worldview. She’s an empathetic person who thinks of others. Meryl Streep’s character is not so nice. Also, she has a humanist conversation in front of DaVinci’s Last Supper painting. Her conversation implies DaVinci believed Jesus was an imperfect human. Of course, her character isn’t depicted as a moral person and is a bit of a villain at times.

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 also has some foul language and light lewd content, including two gratuitous “f” words. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution.
