NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VAN WILDER

What You Need To Know:

NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VAN WILDER is about an easy-going campus prankster at Coolidge College. Van Wilder’s rich father finds out that his son has spent seven years in college without graduating, so he cuts off Van’s tuition money. Van tries a couple schemes to earn the money, including topless tutoring, until he discovers that people will pay him to throw exciting college parties. A beautiful female student journalist, Gwen, is ordered to do a story on Van. Slowly, Van begins to win her heart, but this enrages her conceited fraternity boyfriend. Meanwhile, Gwen wonders if Van can ever be serious enough for a long-term relationship.

Following in the footsteps of ANIMAL HOUSE, VAN WILDER is filled with strong sexual immorality, foul language and lots of gross humor about bodily functions. All of this abhorrent content becomes truly weird when VAN WILDER starts inserting some moral elements within its juvenile campus hijinks. Van even makes the Sign of the Cross before taking an important test, which he passes. Despite the movie’s abhorrent content, Ryan Reynolds is charming enough in the title role that it would be good to see him in a more positive comic venue.
