More Detail:

OPERATION FINALE follows the Israeli team that finds and tries to capture the notorious Nazi officer who engineered the Holocaust for Hitler, to bring him to trial in Israel. OPERATION FINALE has a strong moral, patriotic worldview with an over-arching redemptive theme of sacrifice and is exceptionally well made, but there is some foul language, anti-Christian revisionist history and intense jeopardy that warrant extreme caution.

Peter Malkin is in Israel’s intelligence agency, the Mossad. His job has been to take out former Nazi leaders. When he shows up at one of Nazi leader’s home with one of the other agents, they end up killing the wrong man. Though this man was a Nazi, he was a doctor. Malkin has to report to the head of his department, Isser Harel, who tells him he must do better and think of others rather than being so selfish.

Meanwhile, in Argentina, a young Jewish woman named Sylvia is dating a young man named Klaus. Not realizing Sylvia is Jewish, Klaus takes Sylvia to a Nazi gathering. Sylvia runs off, and Klaus is furious. She soon realizes that Klaus’ father was a former Nazi leader and reports him to Mossad. When he’s reported, Mossad believes that Klaus’ father is Adolf Eichmann, known for being the architect behind creating the “Final Solution” for Adolph Hitler to massacre the Jews.

Malkin is given the mission to go with a group to get Eichmann out of Argentina and fly him to Israel for a trial. The group still needs a doctor to go with them to sedate Eichmann while he’s flying. Malkin must go to Hanna, his old girlfriend, and convince her to do it. Hanna is hesitant, as she and the others have made mistakes on these missions before this one. However, she believes bringing Eichmann to trial in front of the Israeli people will make history.

When the group arrives in Argentina, they discover the police and corrupt government officials are in cahoots with the Nazis. They must figure out how to get around them to capture Eichmann and secretly him out of the country to Israel.

OPERATION FINALE has a strong moral worldview, showing everyone sins and all have fallen short, but we must learn to lay down our lives for other people. These are the movie’s overarching themes, which are shown mostly from the main character, Malkin’s, viewpoint, who has to learn how to get over his own ego. Despite this, one scene shows a priest at a Nazi meeting, who argues to get rid of the Jews. Why the writer added this to the movie is hard to understand since many Christians took in Jews and hid them during the Holocaust, including, of course, Corrie Ten Boom. In addition, Jesus Christ taught us to love everyone, no matter their nationality, race, sex, or financial status. Thus, Anti-Semitism and racism are totally antithetical to Christian teachings. Otherwise, however, the movie contains some great moral messages overall.

OPERATION FINALE is an extremely well-made movie, with excellent acting and lots of jeopardy. Sir Ben Kingsley and Oscar Isaac do an amazing job at acting in OPERATION FINALE, with Kingsley playing an evil, manipulative man. The movie has intense jeopardy and is well written.
