More Detail:
IMPASTOR is a vile Anti-Christian television program about a man posing as a homosexual Lutheran pastor. Although there are some funny lines, everything is calculated to mock and bash Christianity. If this had been about Judaism or Islam, people would be furious.
The beginning of the first episode, Buddy owes a lot of money to two thugs for some gambling debts. He makes some lame excuse he’s coming into an inheritance. They threaten to kill him, but Buddy clobbers one thug and gets away. When his bartender girlfriend doesn’t want to go into hiding with him, he goes to the local suicide bridge to jump and end his life. A car stops, a man runs out and says, don’t commit suicide, that’s the worst of all sins, God is here to redeem you, and God provides. The man tries to grab Buddy but ends up falling into the river instead and dies.
Buddy thinks God provides and gets in the man’s car, only to learn the man is a Lutheran pastor going to lead a church in a small town. When Buddy gets to the church, he finds he has a beautiful home as a pastor, a goofy, hyper-spiritual secretary who misconstrues everything he says, and a board of elders who console him by saying they understand he’s gay, which he isn’t. One elder is homosexual and hits on him. Another is a beautiful woman who also hits on him.
In a counseling session, one mother comes to him and says her son is having a relationship with a cantaloupe by drilling a hole in it and putting it in the microwave. Buddy tries the same thing. Buddy tells the boy he’s going to beat him up and send him to Hell if he doesn’t shape up, so the boy does. The son also has some marijuana, which Buddy confiscates and saves to smoke later.
One elder’s daughter is fighting with her husband. The elder asks Buddy to recommend a Bible verse. Buddy recommends the begat passage in the Book of Genesis as a random choice by opening the Bible and pointing. Because Christianity is so goofy, Buddy’s reference to the begat section is interpreted to tell this arguing couple they should have children.
This is just scratching the surface of how evil and mocking IMPASTOR is. Good is seen as bad, Christians are seen as buffoons and dupes, and God’s power and Grace are mocked. IMPASTOR is one of the worst programs ever produced.
