More Detail:
The first episode of the Netflix TV series MR. IGLESIAS, “Some Children Left Behind,” starts in June leading into Summer Vacation. The students in the class of history teacher Gabe Iglesias are excited to be leaving for the summer, until Carlos, the Vice Principal tells them that many of them will be leaving Wilson High School permanently. One by one, Carlos delivers letters of expulsion to several students in Gabe’s history class. As each student receives their letters, Gabe tries to save them from “Alcatraz High” where they will all inevitably go if they can’t stay at Wilson. Gabe then agrees to give up his summer break and teach summer school so his students don’t get left behind.
“Some Children Left Behind” is a funny first episode of the series. Also, it gives viewers some sneak peeks into what the rest of the series will be like. There are a handful of sexual jokes, obscenities and profanities in this episode, but it’s considerably lighter than most of the other episodes that follow. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for “Some Children Left Behind.”
