"of Raunchy Humor"
What You Need To Know:
There is no deep plot to MY BEST FRIEND’S GIRL, which is a very unromantic movie. The majority of the humor comes from a crude, pagan worldview that is void of any moral base whatsoever. The movie contains an over-abundance of foul language and graphic, sexual content, including obscene dialogue, plenty of implied promiscuity and sexually-based nudity. The content is gratuitous, excessive and abhorrent. A young Christian woman points Tank toward some moral decisions, but the change is short-lived. Media-wise viewers would be wise to avoid this obscene extravaganza.
(PaPa, RoRo, AbAb, Ho, Fe, E, PC, B, C, LLL, V, SSS, NN, AA, DD, MM) Strong mixed pagan worldview with skewed elements of immoral Romanticism, blatant mockery of Christianity at a pizza parlor called Cheesus Crust (Jesus Christ), homosexual character and homosexual references, some feminist references in a women’s studies course, a few light environmental references along with politically correct statements about planned parenthood and abortion, and one Christian character represents positive Biblical morality as she gives counsel to lead character about changing his way of life; 91 very strong obscenities, seven profanities and one crude gesture; violence some slapping, man falls while running and hits his knee, and some other light comedic violence including pratfalls, strong sexual content includes crude, graphic sexual dialogue about every form of debauchery and crude jokes, implied fornication in multiple scenes, depicted heavy petting in montage, couple visits strip club, women talk about and show sexual toys, father figure talks graphically about taking advantage of young college women, man owns and watches large selection of pornographic videos with much discussion about masturbation and another character admits to adulterous affair; nudity includes graphic upper female nudity at strip club as well as women in lingerie in multiple scenes, upper male nudity and rear male nudity; strong alcohol use in multiple scenes including man feigns drunkenness at wedding reception in order to “act” inappropriately, several characters smoke cigarettes, woman admits to taking a drug to make her sexually aroused and depicted marijuana use; and, lying, cheating, woman solicits man as prostitute.
MY BEST FRIEND’S GIRL stars stand-up comedian Dane Cook and actress Kate Hudson, in a romantic comedy that would be better served to call itself what it really is – a debauched exercise in crude humor and immoral propaganda that could only rival GOOD LUCK CHUCK, Dane Cook’s previous over-sexed sophomoric romp.
Tank (Cook) works on referrals, and his job is unique. When a couple breaks up, Tank gets hired by a forlorn boyfriend who wants to get his girl back. So, he pays Tank to take his ex-girlfriend on the worst date of her life. That way, she will realize that there are worse men out there and go running back into the arms of her former beau. When it comes to showing a lady the worst night of her life, Tank is the best. From crude comments to outlandish antics and even strip clubs, Tank makes sure that any woman he takes on a date will never forget how great she could have it with her ex-flame.
When Tank’s cousin Dustin hires Tank to work his scheme on Alexis (Hudson), Dustin’s former girlfriend, Tank plans a masterpiece of sleaziness. However, his plan backfires as Alexis refuses to fall for any of Tank’s crazy tricks. Soon, Tank and Alexis, who are very attracted to each other, are carrying on a promiscuous tryst behind Dustin’s back. Tank urges Dustin to throw away his pornography collection, get out on the dating scene, meet other women and forget about Alexis. When Dustin, loved-crazed for Alexis, storms over to her house one night, he finds Tank there with her. As all of their relationships are put to the test, Tank struggles with his own real feelings for Alexis as he finds himself falling in love for the first time in his life.
There is no deep plot to MY BEST FRIEND’S GIRL. The movie has no surprising twist in this formulaic Romantic Comedy that, although funny at times, is not really romantic at all. The majority of the humor comes from a crude, pagan worldview that is void of any moral base whatsoever. Dane Cook, considered by many young people to be one of the best comedians of today, brings a sophomoric brand of humor that is neither uplifting nor redemptive in any way. Kate Hudson, a charming young actress, has lowered her standards to be involved in this raunch-fest. Most notably, Alec Baldwin steps in as Tank’s father, a professor of Women’s Studies who is even more lewd than his son and objectifies women in the most degrading ways possible.
Perhaps the one redeeming element of the movie is a young Christian woman who points Tank toward some moral decisions, although it is short-lived as he soon goes back to his old shenanigans. The movie contains an over-abundance of foul language and graphic, sexual content, including obscene dialogue, plenty of implied promiscuity and sexually-based nudity. The movie is gratuitous and excessive. Media-wise viewers will do well to choose plenty other family-fare over this obscene extravaganza.
