Christian singer Colton Dixon believes it is important we are bold in our faith and not afraid to speak — or sing — about Jesus.

“Sometimes we feel like we have to approach the world with, like, being timid or shy,” Dixon told Matthew West of living out his faith. “It’s like, no, I think God’s given us a bold spirit. Call those things not as though they are, like, walk out in your faith.”

Dixon is referring Romans 4:17 which says, “As it is written: ‘I have made you a father of many nations.’ He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed — the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.”

The AMERICAN IDOL alum continued, quoting Matthew 18:18, “‘Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven. Whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven’…I knew that music was gonna be a part of my story at 13 years [old].”

He previously shared about how his passion for singing began.

“I was 13 years old actually. I’d been taking piano lessons for a few years and was at a recital and my teacher, right before I went on stage, said that I should sing the song that I was going to play as well,” Dixon explained to CBN. “’I Can Only Imagine’ by Mercy Me was one of my favorites growing up, but I’d never sang in public before.”

He stepped out in faith, and something amazing happened.

“I was terrified, but I did it, I sang it. Man, I just felt the presence of God and I just knew that this was it. I didn’t know what it’s going to look like, of course, but I started pursuing it.”

Dixon told West, “Yeah, that was kind of the start of, okay, music is gonna be this thing that God uses to tell people about Him.”

God is definitely using Dixon’s music in an inspiring way. Recently, the artist teamed up with Skillet to sing a rendition of the classic hymn “Nothing But The Blood.”

In an Instagram post sharing the collab, listeners shared how much the version touched them.

“We need more covers like this!!!” one fan said. Another person added, “Nothing but the blood. I loved this version😍❤️”

Dixon’s story is a reminder that as we trust God and put our faith in Him, anything is possible.
