What You Need To Know:

JANE AUSTEN WRECKED MY LIFE is a light French romantic comedy. Agathe, a clumsy but charming young woman working in an English bookstore in Paris, longs to be a writer. Agathe’s best friend, Félix, believes in her writing. Without her knowledge, he submits some of her writing to the Jane Austen Writer’s Residency in the English countryside. Before she leaves for England, they kiss, which leaves Agathe in a spin. When she arrives, she meets Oliver, another handsome man, but he tends to be cynical. Will Agathe finish her book? Will she find love?

JANE AUSTEN WRECKED MY LIFE is very slow paced. It has little jeopardy, even when it comes to the actual romantic relationships. It has a sort of beauty to it, though, with its warm depiction of the English countryside and the charms of rural living. JANE AUSTEN WRECKED MY LIFE has a strong Romantic worldview about following your heart. It doesn’t have much depth in terms of life, but it does briefly go into issues of grief and loss. It also has some illicit behavior and strong foul language.

More Detail:

JANE AUSTEN WRECKED MY LIFE is a French romantic comedy about a clumsy but charming young woman, Agathe, who longs to be a writer and may be on her way to becoming a great author and perhaps finding love when she submits her work to the Jane Austen Writer’s Residency. JANE AUSTEN WRECKED MY LIFE is a slow-paced movie with a Romantic worldview about following your heart and finding love in the beauty of the English countryside, plus it’s marred by some illicit behavior and strong foul language.

Agathe works at the famous Shakespeare and Co. bookshop in Paris. Every day she works and reads books and dreams of a romance written by 19th Century British author Jane Austen. Her best friend, Félix, a handsome bachelor playboy, believes in her writing and her talent. He tries encouraging her to submit her work to the Jane Austen Writer’s Residency, where she’ll be able to finish writing her book and focus on the things she loves.

Agathe finally commits to finishing the start of her book, and Félix submits it to the residency behind her back. The organization lets her in, and Agathe must go to the English country side in order to get to the residency. The one thing hindering her is she doesn’t ride in cars, after the loss of her loved ones in a car crash.

Agathe finally gets past her fear and grief and decides to ride with Félix to the countryside, then take a boat to the beautiful estate where the residency takes place. When Agathe is saying goodbye to Félix, they kiss each other, kindling more than just friendship.

Agathe is picked up at the boat dock by Oliver, a cynical yet handsome man. A descendant of Jane Austen, Oliver is driving her the rest of the way to the estate. However, the classic car Oliver’s driving suddenly breaks down in the middle of the English countryside. Oliver is frustrated by the situation and overhears Agathe say on the phone that he seems like he’s egotistic ego. The two have a fight, but there’s still some chemistry between them.

Agathe and Oliver finally make it to the estate and meet Oliver’s parents, who run the residency. Agathe loves the beauty of the estate and the gorgeous gardens, but she seems to be having writer’s block. Will Agathe be able to get past her writer’s block? Will she find the love of her life?

JANE AUSTEN WRECKED MY LIFE is very slow paced. It has very little jeopardy, even when it comes to the movie’s actual romantic relationships. There is a sort of beauty to the movie, with the warmth in the tone and lighting and its cozy depiction of the English countryside and the homey charms of rural living.

JANE AUSTEN WRECKED MY LIFE has a strong Romantic worldview about following your heart. It doesn’t have a lot of depth to it in terms of the meaning of life, but it does briefly go into issues of grief and loss. Sadly, it’s also marred by some illicit behavior and strong foul language.
