Craig Ferguson will Host THE CW’s Scrabble, replacing Raven Simone in the show’s second season
“I’m a cock-a-hoop to be hosting SCRABBLE,” Ferguson said. “I’ve wanted to do this show ever since I found out the letters of my name can be used to spell Cougar Fingers.”
SCRABBLE places a new spin on the classic board game as contestants compete in separate word games that allow the winners to place words on a giant Scrabble board. The first season ran for 16 episodes and was hosted by Raven Simone. Season 2 of the show is scheduled to air 30 new episodes.
Fergeson is a mainstay in the entertainment industry, having run THE LATE LATE SHOW on CBS for 10 years. He has also released numerous comedy specials across a variety of streaming platforms including Netflix and Prime Video.
“We are excited to continue growing family game night on The CW by bringing a supersized order of 30 new episodes of both TRIVIA PURSUIT and SCRABBLE to the network next year,” said Heather Olander, the head of unscripted programming at The CW Network.

TRIVIA PURSUIT, the other half of The CW’s family game night, follows a similar format to SCRABBLE as it puts a new spin on the classic game by placing contestants on a life-size board that they compete on to collect wedges as they race to the center. LeVar Burton, know for his time on READING RAINBOW, serves as the host of the show.
While SCRABBLE and TRIVIA PURSUIT are classic games reimagined as game shows, other older game shows are making a comeback as well — however, those are sticking to their original format. MATCH GAME, for example, has been rebooted on ABC with Martin Short serving as host.
“The old games themselves are good. I would love to try new games, but the stuff that [past producers] did — they were geniuses,” ABC alternative series chief Robert Mills told Vulture in 2019 when the network was first working on a lineup of game show reboots. “These games are incredibly well-built machines. They’re time-tested. You know that they work. The nostalgia helps, and that’s another selling point.”
The show joins a strong game show lineup on ABC that also includes CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD and THE $100,000 PYRAMID. Whether it be SCRABBLE or MATCH GAME, it is fun to see game shows old and new come on for audiences to enjoy.
