What You Need To Know:
ROSALINE is a quirky, funny movie, but it has some flaws. The movie also has excellent costuming and beautiful locations. The title character is a bit one note, however, and the movie sometimes drags on a bit and lacks jeopardy. More dialogue and faster-paced editing could have helped make ROSALINE more entertaining. ROSALINE has a strong moral worldview where Rosaline must learn not to be so selfish. Rosaline also learns to help others above herself and apologize for her mistakes. ROSALINE has some gratuitous foul language and light feminist, homosexual commentary, however. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong caution.

Streaming on Hulu, ROSALINE is a comical take on Shakespeare’s ROMEO AND JULIET, where Romeo’s jilted ex does everything she can to break up Romeo and Juliet. ROSALINE is a quirky but funny movie with a moral worldview, but the movie sometimes drags on a bit and contains some gratuitous foul language and light feminist, homosexual commentary.
Rosaline and Romeo are in love. Every day he comes to her balcony and tells her the sweetest things. They aren’t allowed to be together, though, because their families are fighting. So, her father sets up dates for Rosaline, so she can find someone else to marry. When she’s set up with Dario, she tries to show no interest in him, even though he’s attractive, kind and ambitious. Dario takes her for a boat ride, but she’s unpleasant the entire time, thinking of how she was supposed to be with Romeo at the masquerade ball. Romeo is walking around the ball looking for Rosaline, but instead sees Juliet. Both Romeo and Juliet lock eyes and instantly fall for each other.
Juliet turns out to be Rosaline’s cousin, and she comes to visit Rosaline. While visiting, Juliet tells Rosaline she’s fallen in love with Romeo. Distressed, Rosaline decides to tell Juliet that Romeo he’s not a good guy and tries to persuade her to not be in love with Romeo, so Rosaline can win back the love of Romeo. All the while, Rosaline uses the help of Dario to carry out her scheme.
Will Romeo still fall for Juliet even though Rosaline is misguiding her? Will Rosaline remain heartbroken?
