What You Need To Know:

THE CASE FOR HEAVEN is a documentary based on the book by New York Times bestselling author Lee Strobel. The movie uses interviews with Strobel and others to get closer to answering the age-old question of what happens after we die. The documentary features testimonies from people who have had near-death experiences, which is one of the pieces of evidence used in the movie to prove that Heaven and Hell are real. Other interviews include discussions with Christian scholars, theologians, evangelists, and experts on the Bible.

THE CASE FOR HEAVEN has good production values and addresses an enticing subject. Lee Strobel’s reflections from his book and about life carry the primary weight of the documentary. The movie affirms the Gospel message that we are sinners who deserve Hell, but that Jesus provides eternal life through His death and resurrection. It also has a strong emphasis on the importance of fatherhood and parenting. THE CASE FOR HEAVEN does contain some graphic descriptions of near-death experiences, demons and horrific dreams. However, these are animated and not graphic visually. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for young viewers.

More Detail:

THE CASE FOR HEAVEN is based on the book of the same name written by Lee Strobel. The documentary and the book seek to get to the bottom of one of life’s biggest questions: What happens after we die?

The documentary begins with narration from Strobel, setting up the evidence for an afterlife, both scientifically and spiritually. Mirroring Strobel’s book, the documentary embarks on a journey worldwide, interviewing theologians, apologists, people with personal testimonies of near-death experiences, and people from the other side of the aisle.

The documentary combines a compelling blend of sit-down interviews and animated stories from testimonials. One of the pieces of evidence for the afterlife is the scientific data for near-death experiences, where people are essentially dead, have an out-of-body experience, and end up living.

Strobel also shares insights from his book with documentary director Mani Sandoval. The movie concludes with a captivating recording of the late pastor and evangelist Luis Palau last words to Strobel. In the discussion on life and death, Strobel and other theologians also point to God’s Word, the Bible, and the hope found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Strobel also shares his personal testimony and how God redeemed him and showed him how to live with an eternal perspective.
