THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 1

What You Need To Know:

THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 1 is a violent, generic horror movie where a couple driving cross country break down in an eerie small town. They find a cabin to stay for the night but have to fight for their lives when three masked strangers start attacking them. The story features one violent assault, shooting or stabbing after another.

The movie has some good suspenseful tension and a few surprise scares. However, it’s mostly a copycat of the original STRANGERS movie from 2008, with numerous scenes and plot points repeated. This makes CHAPTER 1 a fairly pointless experience. Lead actress Madeleine Petsch does give a strong performance. CHAPTER 1 also has frequent foul language, including multiple “f” words, several strong profanities and many light profanities. THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 1 also has a brief scene of the couple deciding to kiss passionately before sex, but they’re interrupted by their cruel attackers. The movie is redeemed slightly by the fact the couple agrees to marry as they face impending death. Ultimately, however, THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 1 is unsatisfying. The ending sets things up for a Chapter 2.
