SPACE CHIMPS

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

SPACE CHIMPS is the story of three chimps sent into space by an opportunity-seeking Senator. Ham III is the grandson of the first chimp in space but doesn’t take his job seriously. When Ham III, Luna and Titan land their ship on an unknown planet, the planet’s evil dictator Zartog captures Titan. Ham III and Luna face many dangers to rescue Titan. As the trio is about to return to earth, Ham III leads his partners on a mission to stop the dictator. Though this means they have no way back to earth, they willingly agree to stop the evil Zartog.

The story in SPACE CHIMPS comes from a strong moral worldview. The characters make a choice to do what’s right in order to help the people rather than just return home, letting the chips fall where they may. The voices are terrific and the animation is good, though not up to the standard of Pixar. There are some slight, implied sexual references. For instance, one character tells another character to find their own place to sleep. However, the movie is a fun adventure that will give some chuckles to children and adults.

Content:

(BB, C, V, M) Strong moral worldview with light redemptive elements as characters make the tough choice to do what’s right; no foul language, but light implied scatological humor at one point; fantasy cartoon violence by villain, monsters chase characters and monster eats a character but they survive; no sexual content, but very mild implied references such as a character tells another character not to sleep with him but “find your own planet”; no nudity; no alcohol or drinking; and, villain out for world domination, kidnapping, forced imprisonment.

More Detail:

SPACE CHIMPS is the story of three chimps sent into space by an opportunity-seeking Senator.

Ham III is the grandson of the first chimp in space but doesn’t take his job seriously and in fact has taken a job as a clown in the circus. He doesn’t think he can live up to his grandfather’s legacy. However, his fellow astronauts Luna and Titan are intent on proving themselves as astronauts.

Once in space, Ham III lands their ship on an unknown planet. Titan is captured by the planet’s evil dictator Zartog. When this is discovered, Ham III and Luna face many dangers to rescue Titan. As they do, they discover the mayhem that Zartog has inflicted on the planet and the people there.

The trio arrive safely back to the ship. They are about to return to Earth when Ham III convinces his partners to attempt to stop the dictator instead. Though this means they would have no way back home to Earth, they willingly agree to stop Zartog.

The movie is entertaining for the whole family. Andy Samberg, Patrick Warburton and Cheryl Hines are terrific as the voices of the hero chimps. The story is fun and adventurous and will have much appeal for children. While the CGI animation is not in the same league as Pixar or Dreamworks, it has a few comedic moments.

Overall, the story comes from a moral worldview and the characters make a choice to do what’s right to help the people rather than have their assured return trip to Earth. There are some very slight, vague, implied sexual references that children will not understand as well as brief scatological humor. For example, a character tells another character to find their own place to sleep. However, the movie is a fun adventure that will give some chuckles to children and adults.
