Christian Rapper Lecrae Says Grace Captivated His Heart Toward Jesus

By Tess Farrand, Associate Content Editor

Chart-topping Christian recording artist Lecrae vulnerably shared that grace captivated his heart toward Jesus Christ.

Lecrae has popular song titles with other singers like Tori Kelly, Andy Mineo, Kari Job, and Tedashii, but the rapper is also a particular case study because he never shies away from working with nonbelievers.

Rapper Waka Flocka Flame and Ty Dolla$ are just a few examples.

Yet, Lecrae makes no apologies and also never backs down from being who he is in Christ around them.

In one of his recent Instagram posts, Lecrae stands next to popular mainstream rapper Chance the Rapper and his mother.

In the past, Chance spoke out about taking a hiatus to go deeper into the word of God and often has tidbits of Christian symbolism in his lyrics.

Lecrae says the following in his post.

“I just want you to know I love you all. I’m glad you’re here. I have ZERO desire to condemn and 100% desire to show you love. I didn’t grow up in church, I don’t know all the cultural rules and norms. …I’m a little unorthodox, I don’t call myself religious. Religion to me is following rules hoping to be right with God. I feel like I’ve been MADE right with God thru the sacrifice of Yeshua (Jesus), who lived the perfect life I could not and died the death I deserved.”

Yes that’s me Chance and his mom…now that I have your attention…let me say this. I’ve have a lot of folks who rock with me. Some are Christians, some are not. Some are on a faith journey, some feel strongly about faith not being legitimate. I just want you to know I love you all. I’m glad you’re here. I have ZERO desire to condemn and 100% desire to show you love. I didn’t grow up in church, I don’t know all the cultural rules and norms. I’m a lil unorthodox, I don’t call myself religious. Religion to me is following rules hoping to be right with God. I feel like I’ve been MADE right with God thru the sacrifice of Yeshua (Jesus), who lived the perfect life I could not and died the death I deserved. I also believe He supernaturally resurrected and lives outside of time and space, yet is present with me always. Now Because of his sacrifice and defeat of death I have a RELATIONSHIP with God. I’ve been atheist, agnostic, seen the institutionalization of Christianity and wanted to throw it all away. I’ve felt the hatred of people who claim to love God and it discouraged me. I’ve tried to walk away but grace kept me. I just want to encourage anyone out there wrestling, that God knows your situation, He knows your pain, and that your life isn’t perfect but He hasn’t given up on you. It’s all apart of a greater story. We get so focused on our performance but God wants us to remember our position. He will lead..but we have to put forth the effort to follow. It’s a worthwhile journey. Keep pushing, keep wrestling, I’m here with you. Btw love to #chancetherapper you are really good at rhyming words bro! ?

Lecrae goes to far as to unpack his testimony for his social media followers and uses his platform to point back to the grace of Jesus.

Lecrae also encourages young men to reject passivity and pursue the biblical definition of what it means to be a man.

Lecrae attended the Movieguide® Awards in the past and recently hopped on the bandwagon posting a picture of himself and what he might look like years down the line. You’ll notice the Movieguide® logo in the background.
