The SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE sequel is officially underway.

The first movie was nominated for Movieguide®’s Best Movies for Families in 2019.

Movieguide®’s review says, “SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE has an uplifting Christian, moral worldview. Its redemptive pro-family themes extol love, sacrifice, forgiveness, doing the right thing, saving others, and getting a second chance.”

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE was also recognized by other critics, winning an Oscar and a Golden Globe for best animated movie.

The news of the sequel starting production comes from Sony Imageworks’ lead animator Nick Kondo.

Kondo tweeted, “First day on the job!” with a logo and release year video attached.

Last month, Sony pushed back the movie’s original release date from April 2022 to October 7, 2022.

Joaquim Dos Santos is set to direct the movie with Shameik Moore coming back to voice Miles Morales. The sequel adds Dave Callaham to pen the script.

Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Christopher Miller, and Phil Lord produced the first movie, and are listed as producers of the upcoming sequel as well.
