8 NFL Stars Who Put Faith Ahead of the Field – Even the Super Bowl

With Super Bowl Sunday just around the corner, we thought we would highlight some of the NFL players who are vocal about their relationship with Jesus and their Christian faith.
Dak Prescott
Even after a season-ending injury, Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott puts his faith in God.
The injury occurred halfway through the third quarter of Dallas’ game against the New York Giants midway through the 2020 season.
“What’s up everyone, I just wanted everyone to know that I’m doing well,” Prescott told fans in an Instagram video. “I can’t thank you enough for all your love, your support, your prayers over the last few days. They’ve been more than overwhelming.”
“I’m just excited—excited for God’s purpose and plan,” Prescott said. “I know it’s bigger than anything that I see or I could have imagined, but I’m trusting Him. My faith is doubled down more than ever and I’m thankful that He’s my Savior and He guides me in life.”
Prescott continued: “I know through Him, all this will be possible and all this will be a great comeback and a great story.”
Christian McCaffrey
Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is also currently sidelined by injury.
McCaffrey said that “It’s easy to have faith when everything is going well. But a true soldier has faith in times of adversity.”
Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes earned Super Bowl MVP as the Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback in last year’s Super Bowl. As many fans expect a similar performance in this year’s championship game, Mahomes said glorifying God remains his priority.
“Faith is huge for me,” Mahomes said.
In a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) video, Mahomes said, “Before every game, I walk the field and I do a prayer at the goalpost. I just thank God for those opportunities, and I thank God for letting me be on a stage where I can glorify him.”
Clark Hunt
Although Hunt isn’t on the field every weekend for the team, he’s the Kansas City Chiefs CEO and is committed to his faith.
“We want our employees to develop spiritually,” Hunt said. “In the National Football League, Christ is really glorified. My identity is my faith in Christ,” reported the Tyler Morning Telegraph.
After the team won the AFC Championship, Hunt thanked God at the trophy presentation: “I want to thank the Lord for blessing us, the Glory belongs to Him.”
Nate Solder
The New York Giants offensive tackle Nate Solder announced that he would opt out of the 2020 NFL season during the pandemic after praying to God and listening to the Holy Spirit’s will for him and his family.
“My family and I have been praying, wrestling and listening to God about our current circumstances and whether it is best that I play football this season,” the statement said. “Our primary goal is to pursue God and listen to the Holy Spirit in everything we do.”
He added: “As scary and bleak as it sometimes can be, we know that the God of the universe has all things under His control, and His plans are and will always be for our good.”

New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis praised God after his baby daughter Carly-Faith was completely healed of cancer.
“We always want to turn adversity into something positive,” Davis said. “And that’s what we want to do is use our platform to bring more awareness. Carly-Faith, she’s doing amazing, 100% healthy, and just praising God for that.”
On her first birthday in July, Davis wrote, “I can already sense the amount of extra faith God has placed inside your spirit. You will be a world changer in many facets. I can’t wait to watch you grow into all your gifts. Your mom and I will be proud of you no matter what you do or where you go. It’s our honor and privilege to be your parents and to have the opportunity to shepherd you. I love you babygirl.”
DK Metcalf
In his rookie year, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is already considered one of the best.
Metcalf, who partners with Prison Fellowship, says, “I look at football as a platform to help other people or to spread the word of God.” He adds, “I put my faith in God, my trust in God and that he’s blessed me each and every day to play the game.”
Justin Simmons
Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons is adamant about his faith. Simmons said that he was a “lukewarm Christian” until high school, where he met his eventual wife.
“My walk with the Lord has been an amazing journey,” Simmons said. “One of the things I love about my sport is the platform that comes with it. The bigger the platform, the more people I’m able to touch with the truth of the Gospel.”
Simmons often shares scripture on his social media and says that Christ “saved me from myself, and I love to share that with different people because you never know where people are with their walk and their faith.”
