Christian Artists Honored at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards

Billboard aired their 2021 Music Awards on May 23, highlighting the artists and bands who performed at the highest level on their billboard charts. The night included several Christian artists such as Gabby Barrett, Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, Kanye West, and Christian bands like Elevation Worship.
Barrett, who burst onto the country music scene after her run on AMERICAN IDOL, was nominated for Top New Artist, Top Country Artist, Top Country Album, Top Hot 100 Song Presented by Rockstar, Top Selling Song, and Top Rated Song. Barrett took home first place in several categories, including Top Country Song, Top Collaboration and Top Country Female Artist.

“IDOL was such a huge highlight in my career. Even if it’s not the end all be all, it’s a big part of my journey,” Barrett said. “Two years later, people still message me, saying, ‘I just watched your performance of [Miranda Lambert’s] ‘Little Red Wagon’ on IDOL and I love it’ … It’s really nice to see people stick with you.”
Barrett also just announced the release of her first Christmas track with her rendition of the timeless classic “The First Noel.”
“Christmas is one of my absolute favorite days of the year,” Barrett said. “My faith is the cornerstone of my life, so being able to share both with ‘The First Noel’ is a gift. I feel so blessed to do what I do every day, and I hope that this song adds something special to your holidays.”
Billboard also honored Carrie Underwood, a fellow country artist, who won Top Christian Album for “My Gift.” Underwood was also nominated for Top Country Female Artist, Top Christian Artist and Top Country Album.
Justin Bieber, who is candid about how God redeemed his life, was nominated in five categories: Top Song Sales Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, and Top R&B Song.
Kanye West took home the wins for both Top Gospel Song and Top Gospel Artist.
