‘Praising Jesus’: BRINGING UP BATES Stars Bring Daughter With Rare Blood Condition Home

By Movieguide® Staff

BRINGING UP BATES’ Josie and Kelton Balka celebrated answered prayers as they brought their daughter Hazel home from the hospital after her fight with jaundice and high levels of bilirubin.

Last week, Josie and Kelton welcomed baby Hazel into the world after they suffered a previous miscarriage.

“After so many months of dreaming about what it would be like as a family of four and anticipating Hazel’s arrival, we are so thrilled to finally meet her!” Josie said on Instagram.

However, what was a joyous occasion turned serious quickly.

Two days after her initial post, Josie gave an update via her Instagram about Hazel’s condition.

“Routine bloodwork in the first trimester revealed that Hazel’s pregnancy was complicated by an exceedingly rare blood condition, unlike anything the doctors had seen before. Basically, for reasons unknown and possibly as a result of our previous miscarriage, Josie’s blood and Hazel’s were fighting against each other,” Josie said on Instagram.

Due to Hazel’s unique complications, she was transferred to Children’s Hospital NICU.

The Balkas credit Hazel’s recovery to the countless prayers of family, friends and fans.

“Thank you so so much for all of the love and prayers you have sent our way! Hazel’s bilirubin levels are slowly improving, and we are praising Jesus for so many prayers answered!!!” Josie said.
