Hugh Jackman Pays Tribute to Late Father on Australia Father’s Day: ‘He Devoted His Life to His Family, Work and Faith’

Every first Sunday of September, Australians celebrate Father’s Day. However, Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman took the holiday to post a touching tribute to his father, Christopher John Jackman, who passed away on Sept. 5, 2021, at the age of 84.

“In the early hours of Father’s Day (AU), my Dad peacefully passed away,” the X-MEN star shared to Instagram on Sept. 6. “And whilst there is deep sadness, I am filled with such gratitude and love. My Dad was, in a word, extraordinary. He devoted his life to his family, his work and his faith.”

Jackman added: “I pray he is now at peace with God.”

“Thank you for all your messages. I’m grateful for the love and prayers,” Jackman added in a follow-up post.

Jackman recalled that his father raised him and his siblings alone after their mother left Australia. However, THE GREATEST SHOWMAN star said that he treasured all that his father taught him as a child.

“It’s always about the family,” he shared during a 2012 interview with 60 Minutes. “It’s always, ‘How’s [wife] Deb?’ It’s not about work and I think that’s him living with, probably some of his regrets and feelings of maybe he… at the wrong time put too much into his career and he doesn’t want me to make that mistake. And so, in his gentle way, he always reminds me that this is the most important thing.”

In 2020, Jackman shared a post of his father, honoring him on American Father’s Day.

“My Father taught me to always keep my promises,” Jackman wrote. “Even if it turns out that there’s a better option or something that will benefit me more. Be true to your word.”
