Abby Brooks, the beautiful host of a big city restaurant makeover show on a food network, is ordered to do a show on the road in a small town in Minnesota. When she and her director, Kenna, get there, however, they realize the restaurant is only a small family diner called Rocko’s Diner. Inside the establishment, the handsome young widowed owner, Tom Billings, doesn’t know anything about the show. It turns out that his Aunt Marge, who helps Tom in the diner, arranged for Abby to come do the show. She feels Tom isn’t reaching his potential as a chef and is too dependent on the diner’s traditions set by his parents.

Reluctantly, Tom agrees to let Abby do a makeover on the diner, but he fights her at nearly every turn. However, when Tom’s daughter, Claire, takes a liking to Abby and sides with Aunt Marge, he surrenders and calls a truce with Abby.

As time passes, there’s no denying there’s a spark of romance growing between Tom and Abby. Tom is reluctant to commit to a relationship, though, since Abby will soon be moving on to her next location for the show’s new format. Just when he thinks there might be a chance for a long-term relationship, however, he overhears a phone conversation with Abby’s network producer, which leads to a big misunderstanding.
