Alice Cooper Reveals Daily Routine Involves Prayer And Reading The Bible: ‘It Puts Me In A Positive Frame Of Mind’

Rock ‘n’ roll icon Alice Cooper recently shared how his Christian faith plays a central part in his daily routine.

“I’m up before the sun; 5 a.m. is my time. Straight out of bed, make a cup of coffee, grab my Bible, then spend the next hour reading and praying,” Cooper told The Times UK. “I read a couple of chapters a day. This is my 12th reading. It puts me in a positive frame of mind.”

Cooper said that he ends his days the same way that he starts them, in prayer.

“I’m rarely in bed later than 11. Then I pray for a while,” he said.

The artist, who became a Christian midway through his career in music, often expresses his thankfulness to Jesus for saving him and helping him overcome his drug and alcohol addiction.

“Thanks to [my wife] Sheryl — she committed me to an asylum for treatment — this is my 39th year sober,” he said. “Being a dad changed everything for me. It gave me a reason to stay sober. On stage I was Alice but, after the show, I wanted to be Dad. That life was better than a life in the bottle.”

Even though Cooper is known for his hard-rocking past and spooky stage makeup, he warned his fans about the influence of the devil.

“I believe in Heaven and Hell,” he explained. “People think of the devil with horns and a pointy tail. Man, you are so far off the mark.”

“The devil is going to be the best-looking, smoothest-talking guy in the room,” Cooper added. “He’s going to make you feel like a million bucks. But you better watch out, because he’s got a whole different set of plans for you.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Cooper’s faith journey:

Cooper said that both the doctrine of God’s justice and Jesus’ sacrifice helped him come to Christ.

“I came to Christ because of my fear of God,” he confessed. “I totally understood that hell was not getting high with Jim Morrison, hell was going to be the worst place ever. In fear I came back to the Lord but I went to another church and that pastor preached the love of Christ, which, now you put the two together, and it was exactly right.”

Cooper noted that his lifestyle immediately changed after his salvation.

“I knew that there had to either come a point where I either accepted Christ and started living that life or if I died in this, I was in a lot of trouble and that’s what really motivated me,” he said. “I don’t think we accept Christ, I think we accept the fact that He accepted us.”

“You can’t put that into words,” he added. “It’s because God opens your eyes and it’s supernatural. When the Lord opens your eyes and you suddenly realize who you are and who He is, it’s a whole different world.”
