Sight & Sound Announces Launches Film Division, Will Debut New Movie This Christmas

By Movieguide® Contributor

Sight & Sound, the live theater company that brought the Bible stories “Jesus” and “Jonah” to the live stage will release their first original movie I HEARD THE BELLS about poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow to theaters nationwide.

The debut is part of Sight & Sound’s expansion into movies beyond live stage productions.

“This multi-generational, family-run ministry began as a traveling multimedia show, so in many ways, making motion pictures feels like we’re returning to our roots,” shared Josh Enck, President and Chief Story Officer of Sight & Sound. “Not only are we excited to be expanding into this new medium, we are thrilled to be venturing into new stories from the pages of the past that are waiting to be told.”

Sight & Sound CEO Matt Neff added, “We’re humbled that God has given us this opportunity to expand our passion for sharing stories of faith beyond the stage. We want these films to ring out above the noise of culture and bring hope, truth, and inspiration to the silver screen.”

Longfellow, “known as America’s Poet, lead an idyllic life – until the day his world is shattered by tragedy,” the synopsis reads. “With a nation divided by Civil War and his family torn apart, Henry puts down his pen, silenced by grief. But it’s the sound of Christmas morning that reignites the poet’s lost voice as he discovers the resounding hope of rekindled faith.

Sight & Sound previously released stage productions as movies through Fathom Events.

Sight & Sound is a family-run ministry that began in 1976 that has two theaters  and has provided family-friendly live performances to over 30 million people. They expanded to the small screen in 2020 with the launch of Sight & Sound TV and most recently launched Sight & Sound Films with I HEARD THE BELLS being  their first of the ministry’s movies aimed to highlight true stories of people “whose lives changed the world because Christ first changed them,” according to their website

The ministry is still committed to their incredible state productions, despite their new venture. They are currently performing the story of David, which is running through December. Other popular productions include the story of Christ and then of Noah, both of which aired on television.

Movieguide® previously partnered with Sight & Sound for the live streaming of the stage production QUEEN ESTHER:

Movieguide® Founder and Publisher Dr. Ted Baehr noted, “I love the Sight &  Sound productions. At such a time as we are living now, QUEEN ESTHER is  the perfect choice not just to entertain, but also as a call to stand up and  save a nation. Making it available as a live pay-per-view event for those

who can’t see it in person presents a wonderful evangelistic opportunity to  invite family and friends over and reach them with the truth of God’s  Word.”

He added, “I was the president of the ministry that won an Emmy during my  tenure for producing C.S. Lewis’ THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE for CBS TV (37 million viewers), so I understand the unique  challenges and satisfaction that comes along with this artful endeavor.  Movieguide® is happy to support Sight & Sound and wishes them great  success in the dramatization of this important book of the Bible.”
