Katy Nichole Recalls How God Saved Her from Suicide: ‘I’m Not Done’

Christian singer Katy Nichole joined the Candace Cameron Bure podcast to discuss her new no. 1 radio hit “Hold On.”

“It’s a song that I would say is probably over the course of maybe even the last eight or nine years,” Nichole began. “I felt at many points in my life that I was hanging on by a thread. It really truly felt like that thread was withering away. And I was going to eventually just snap. I’ve talked about having surgeries and the health problems that I’ve dealt with in my life. While that has been a struggle, I would say that the mental aspect of it was much more challenging for me in that season.”

Nichole recalled how that time felt like a “wilderness.”

“So, from surgery one in 2015 to surgery two in 2018, there was obviously a three-year period in between,” she said. “When you think about the wilderness, it felt like a wilderness season for me. So incredibly dark, so incredibly hard to get through. And I was so, so depressed. I don’t think I have ever been more depressed than I was in that season in my life, and I thank God that I’ve not been that depressed.”

During the depths of her depression, she experienced God’s salvation in a tangible way.

“I had taken a bottle of pills with me to the bathroom, and I had looked down at them and I’d said, ‘It would be that easy,’ because it truly was that easy,” she told Bure.

Nichole continued, “I knew what would happen to me if I took those pills. And when I went into the bathroom, I don’t know what happened, but I dropped that bottle of pills onto the floor, and it spilled everywhere. There wasn’t even anything to trip over.”

“But somehow, it slipped out and it was on the floor, and that, for me, just led me to breaking down. But in a moment of complete silence, I just felt the Lord saying, ‘Hold on, I’m not done yet.’ It was a rush through my entire being. It wasn’t just peace; it was like a literal river of peace. And I knew that there was still more for my life,” she shared.

On Instagram, Nichole added, “I picked up those pills and threw them in the trash can because I knew that God still had a plan and a purpose for my life. I hope this song can encourage you and remind you that your life matters so, so much and you can hold on because you have a purpose.”

Movieguide® recently reported on Nichole’s third No.1 hit on the radio:

In “Hold On,” Nichole shares her story of holding on through her darkest moments.

“The song points to a bigger picture beyond what you can see in the moment; beyond the pain, beyond the struggle,” The Christian Beat reported on the song.

“I know firsthand what it means to be broken and desperate,” Nichole stated. “However, I have also experienced the beauty and wonder of God redeeming and breathing life into situations that seemed utterly hopeless. I want my music to speak truth and shine a light for those going through dark times.”
