Mario Lopez just shared three things that have kept his 13-year marriage to his wife Courtney strong.
“We try to go without no more than two weeks without seeing each other,” Lopez told PEOPLE at the World Premiere of Cirque Du Soleil LUDÕ at VidantaWorld in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
He added that he and his wife “prioritize date nights,” and they don’t go “to bed angry.”
The couple met in 2008 and then married in 2012 in Punta Mita, Mexico, a location near the Cirque Du Soleil LUDÕ red carpet.
“This is a special place for us and we try to come on vacation here at least once a year,” Lopez shared. “We’ve got friends down here and we’re looking forward to this incredible resort.”

The couple just celebrated their 13 year anniversary.
“13 yrs married baby! What a ride. I love our little family we’ve built! ♥️ here’s to eternity!” Courtney wrote on Instagram.
Lopez echoed the same sentiment in his own post: “Married to my favorite person to laugh with, dance with, and get lost in the moment with…Still crazy about you…and still surprised you’re still putting up with me.”
In 2017, Lopez shared a few other ways he and Courtney help their marriage thrive.
“I think it’s very important to never stop dating your wife,” he said on YouTube. “Just because you’re married and you have kids doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t romance your wife or have special moments and getaways.”
“Here’s another tip. I think there should be rules when you fight, when you argue. Very important,” he added. “I don’t think you should ever be disrespectful and swear, especially in front of the kids, or call each other names and cross those lines no matter how heated or passionate it gets.”
Most importantly, though, the Lopezes keep faith at the center of their family life.
“My faith is very important to me, and I’m vocal about it…I’m not ashamed,” Lopez told Fox News Digital in 2024. “My kids are raised in a faith-based education. They all go to Catholic school. It’s something that’s the infrastructure of our family, and I’m proud of that.”
In 2018, Lopez got baptized in the Jordan River 10 days before Easter. “Spiritual moment…” he shared on X alongside a video of the experience.
If you’re looking for ways to keep your marriage strong, the Lopezes’ advice is a great place to start. Go on regular date nights, don’t go to bed angry, continue to do special things for one another and, most importantly, keep Jesus at the center.
