Kathie Lee Gifford’s Daughter Honors Late Father on Anniversary of Death

By Movieguide® Contributor

Cassidy Gifford, the daughter of Kathie Lee and Frank Gifford, recently honored her father on the eighth anniversary of his death, sharing how he lives on through his grandchildren.

“8 years. And I’ve missed you every day but what a sweet gift of the Lord to give me so many bits of you in your grandson,” Cassidy said, sharing a throwback photo of her family from when she was a little girl.

Frank, an NFL and broadcasting legend, died in 2015 after being married to Kathie Lee since 1986, TODAY reported.

Cassidy and her husband, Ben Wierda, welcomed their first child earlier this year.

“Our whole entire world. Finn Thomas Wierda 6.24.2023. We are so madly in love with you buddy. Thank you, Lord for this most precious gift,” they announced on Instagram.

Finn is the second grandchild to join the family, following Cassidy’s brother Cody’s son, born in May last year.

“I knew I was going to love Frank [her grandson] instantly because I love babies,” Kathie Lee Gifford told Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager after Frankie was born. “But this is my son’s child – my husband’s son’s son – it’s all such a beautiful tapestry of life and creation.”

While Cody naming his son Frank is an obvious homage to his father, the move surprised Kathy Lee because of the pressure it may bring.

“I was surprised Cody named him after his dad because Cody knew what it was like to grow up in the shadow of a great man,” Kathie Lee admitted. “But I guess he’s never gotten over, really, and he never will, the loss of his dad at an early age and he was his hero and still is.”

Kathie Lee Gifford recently celebrated the birth of her first grandchild, along with new parents Cody Gifford and Erika Brown.

“My heart is bursting,” Gifford captioned a photo of the new parents at the hospital. “Frank Michael Gifford is here, confirming that our God is good and merciful and faithful. And he loves us!”

In another post, Gifford wrote: “What greater miracle is there than the miracle of life? I cannot contain my joy. Thank you God for the gift of little Frank Michael Gifford. 8 lbs. 8 oz. of sheer beauty.”

The newborn is named after Cody’s late father, Frank Gifford, but his middle name has a special family connection for Brown.

“Frank ‘Frankie’ after C’s pops & Michael after my uncle who passed away last year at 61 whose name also means ‘gift of God’ / Two strong men — gone but never forgotten,” she captioned her own Instagram post.
