‘Want To Spread The Gospel’: Toby Mac Backup Singer Launches Solo Career

By Movieguide® Contributor

Former Toby Mac backup singer Terrian Woods is striking out on her own and finding success as a solo artist.

“I just knew it was what I was supposed to do for a long time ever since I was a little girl,” she said of her music career. “I just want to spread the gospel. I think that’s what we’re called to do.”

Her latest single, “Big God,” has already racked up 1.5 million views on YouTube and over 3 million streams on Spotify.

“Sometimes you can convince yourself that your problems are bigger than God, and it’s just not true. He sees things in a way we don’t see it,” Woods said of the inspiration behind the song. “I like that the song is upbeat, but lyrically, it means a lot. It’s gotten me out of bed a few times, just listening to it.”

Woods thanked fans on Instagram for supporting the single, writing, “All glory to Jesus. Thank you guys for the support you’ve shown this song. I’m so glad it’s been an encouragement to you guys because its message surely has been an encouragement to me.”

This career success has been a long time coming for the singer, who faced rejection from singing competition shows like AMERICAN IDOL and THE VOICE.

“I was just like, ‘You know what? Why am I tripping? What am I tripping for? God is going to do what he’s going to do.’ I was literally like, ‘Lord, it will be done,’ and after that, everything just kind of fell into place,” she explained

Woods also shared some words of encouragement for anyone who is facing the same rejection.

“Pick it up and keep going,” she said. “If it’s what you love and what you’re passionate about, at some point, you’re going to come across the thing that’s just for you.”
