‘A Beacon Of Hope’: AFTER DEATH Director Shares His Goal for New Movie

By Movieguide® Contributor

Angel Studios is following up blockbuster SOUND OF FREEDOM with another faith-based movie titled AFTER DEATH — and it’s already sold over 88,000 tickets.

AFTER DEATH explores the age-old question: what happens after we die?

A synopsis of the movie reads, “AFTER DEATH is a gripping feature film that explores the afterlife based on real near-death experiences, conveyed by scientists, authors, and survivors. From the New York Times bestselling authors who brought you titles like 90 Minutes in Heaven, Imagine Heaven, and To Heaven and Back, emerges a cinematic peek beyond the veil that examines the spiritual and scientific dimensions of mortality, inviting viewers to contemplate the possibility of life after death.”

“I’ve found that there are a lot of people in this world who are hurting and searching for answers,” said director Stephen Gray. “I have a deep personal connection to the stories we’ve included in our film, which is why I’ve dedicated the past six-plus years of my life creating this in hopes that it becomes a beacon of hope for others.”

AFTER DEATH features perspectives on what happens after death from scientists, as well as people who have survived near-death experiences.

“For skeptics, my hope is that this film opens the door to begin to ask important questions,” Gray concluded.

The director first began thinking about life after death when his brother-in-law died in a car crash.

“I grew up going to church all my life. I’m a Christian, but for a short period, I was asking those difficult questions. I wasn’t even sure if there really was Heaven,” he told CHVN Radio.

Things changed once he started coming across stories of those who have died and come back to life

“I read something like 30 books when we were going through this. Going through grief really caused us to ask those questions,” Gray explained.

He made a short movie called DISCOVERING HEAVEN that “garnered a fair bit of attention” in his native Canada and America, which led to Angel Studios picking up AFTER DEATH.

A portion of the Movieguide® review reads:

AFTER DEATH is a fascinating, inspiring look into the nature of thousands of near death experiences. It explores the scientific evidence, the encounters people have had, and how the experiences affected them and their lives afterwards. AFTER DEATH has wonderful special effects that help make it a cinematic experience. Best of all, however, it has a strong Christian worldview promoting hope, love, purpose, meaning, and life. It encourages viewers to stop and consider Eternity. It also tells viewers, “What we say and do really matters.”

AFTER DEATH will premiere in theaters October 27.
