Christian NFL Broadcaster Jay Feely Discusses How Trip to Israel Impacted His Faith

By Movieguide® Contributor

Husband, father and NFL broadcaster Jay Feely joined the Sports Spectrum Podcast to discuss how his recent trip to Israel strengthened his faith.

Feely shared two photos of his experience on X. The analyst wrote, “2 weeks ago we were in Israel at what they believe is where Jesus was crucified and then buried in the tomb. We had a service and communion about 200yds away. Brings a different reality to Good Friday.”

“It was on my bucket list and something I’ve always wanted to do was to go to Israel,” Feely began on the podcast.

“I didn’t really know what to expect, but it was one of the greatest trips of my life,” he said.

“Now we’re walking where Jesus walked, and the Bible is coming to life right in front of me,” he added. “You walk into the Garden of Gethsemane, and you understand now why they even stopped there. Because Jewish law said you can’t go from one city to the next city at Passover. So we’re walking down the hill, and obviously, they can’t continue to go because it’s going to be sundown, so they have to stop in the Garden of Gethsemane right in between those two cities.”

“To just see trees that were there then and to bring it to life right in front of you, is just amazing,” Feely continued.

Feely then talked about a recent discovery he saw while there.

“If you go to the pool of Shilom, where Jesus did his second miracle and there is a road that goes directly from that pool right into the Temple,” he described. “They recently found that road, it was exactly the way it was two thousand years ago. We walked on that road, and no one has walked on that road in two thousand years. There’s no doubt Jesus walked on this road.”

On October 7, Feely made another post regarding the war between Israel and Hamas.

“Praying for Israel,” Feely wrote.

“Jay Feely is a former NFL kicker who is currently an NFL analyst with CBS Sports. He played 14 years in the NFL (2001-14) with the Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears. He played his college football at the University of Michigan (1995-98) with Tom Brady, then played two seasons in the Arena Football League before signing an NFL contract in 2001 with Atlanta,” Sports Spectrum reported.
