THE BLIND Becomes Fathom Events’ Highest-Grossing Release Ever

By Movieguide® Contributor

DUCK DYNASTY’s Phil Robertson is celebrating the massive success of his biopic THE BLIND, Fathom Events’ highest-grossing release ever.

“They told me people don’t go to the theater to watch hard stories like THE BLIND these days. Well, my story is about as messy as they come, but I said if just one person gets to know Jesus in that theater, it’s worth it,” Robertson posted on Instagram.

He continued, “Turns out THE BLIND is reaching a mighty throng of individuals, and Hollywood is taking notice that this is a message you want to hear: You’re never too far gone. God can reach you wherever you are and no matter how dark things have gotten. And however hopeless you feel, there is always hope in Jesus.”

THE BLIND has grossed $15.7 million at the North American box office so far, making it the most successful release in Fathom Events’ history.

“From the beginning, we knew how special this film was, and we were eager to support it in the best way possible,” said Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events. “Giving the film a longer theatrical run was a great decision for Fathom because of how important it was to bring this message to the fans – it resonated with so many people, which is why THE BLIND has had such staying power.”

Movieguide® previously reported on THE BLIND’s extended theatrical run:

The DUCK DYNASTY family’s movie THE BLIND will extend its theatrical run for another weekend due to its continued success at the box office.

Phil Robertson, the Robertson family patriarch and inspiration for the movie, expressed his gratitude to fans on Instagram.

“We thank God for every meal to remind us to be thankful for everything,” he wrote. “Right now, we are thankful to all of you who have helped our story stay in theaters for yet another week. Looks like we’ll be there through the weekend, so don’t miss your chance to see it on the big screen.”

The Robertson family is also celebrating the impact THE BLIND has had on audiences.

“The response has been phenomenal,” Willie Robertson told the Shreveport Times. “Stories are starting to pour in of standing ovations, baptisms and post movie gatherings all over the country.”

He continued, “We feel with our limited theaters and hardly any push from mainstream media, we are doing great. It’s been a real grassroots effort from everyday people who are getting the word out that THE BLIND is an inspirational message of hope. It’s awesome that so many people are coming out to theaters to see this incredible redemption story.”

Part of Movieguide®’s review for THE BLIND reads:

THE BLIND refers to a duck blind where his friend, Al, and Phil Robertson are hunting in 1985. Phil tells Al his Christian testimony. The movie cuts to 1958 when Phil is a little boy. Phil’s father worked in the oil fields, away from home for long periods. As a youngster, Phil goes hunting and fishing to bring food home for his family. Phil’s mother has psychotic experiences where she just gets angry at everything and is hauled off by police several times. Phil’s only blessing is Kay. They know in high school they’re destined for each other. Phil gives up a football scholarship to marry Kay. His excessive drinking leads to a downward spiral. Kay gives Phil an ultimatum, but can he change?

THE BLIND is a good movie as a Christian testimony. That said, it doesn’t follow the rules of filmmaking. So, it may not win a big audience. The movie is propelled by the jeopardy, and vice and drinking, but Jesus is extolled. THE BLIND is a rough movie. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution, especially for children and young teenagers.
