1,300 Piece DUNE LEGO Set Coming Next Year

By Movieguide® Contributor

While DUNE fans have to wait a little longer for DUNE: PART TWO, LEGO has announced that it will release a set based on the movie’s iconic ornithopter.

The over 1,300-piece LEGO set builds a “premium-quality replica [ornithopter] feature[ing] fold-out, flappable wings, deployable landing gear and an opening cockpit,” the item’s description says. “The set also includes 8 iconic characters from the movie: Paul Atreides, Lady Jessica, Gurney Halleck, Chani, Leto Atreides, Liet Kynes, Duncan Idaho, and Baron Harkonnen in his long robe.”

Movieguide® celebrated DUNE’s “strong Christological themes, excellent dialogue and conservative statements about freedom and individualism.”

Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:

DUNE is a powerful epic. There are clear conservative themes and statements throughout the movie affirming a father’s love, the importance of motherhood and child rearing, the importance of independence, the clear prophetic vision of a messiah, the oppression of dictatorship and a malevolent Emperor, and much more. All these themes are mixed with the constant knowledge that the spice is a hallucinogen as well as a space propellant and the political intrigue that involves this desert planet because of its rare resource.

Much like DUNE: PART TWO, the LEGO set will not be available in time for the holidays. But it will be ready for fans on February 1 next year and is currently available for pre-order.

DUNE: PART TWO was delayed earlier this year due to the ongoing actors’ strike, which prevents actors from promoting their movies. The release date was pushed from this November to mid-March next year.

Movieguide® previously reported:

Warner Bros. has pushed back the release date of DUNE: PART TWO due to the ongoing actors’ strike.

Originally slated to release this November, the movie is now set to release on March 15, 2024.

The delayed release date comes from the studio’s desire to capitalize on the big-name actors starring in the movie. As long as the SAG strike continues, actors cannot promote their movies or attend the premiere.

“Not having stars to do publicity for your movies is a huge detriment to the overall campaign,” a top studio executive told The Hollywood Reporter. “You lose the cultural impact of having talent talk about the film.”
