How Jennifer Garner Spends Time with Kids Despite Busy Schedule

Though she has a packed schedule full of travel, shooting and running a business, actress Jennifer Garner explained how she manages to make time for her three children.

“My travel is always so carefully orchestrated. I’m always landing and skating right into a kid’s performance or bedtime,” the mom of three told Thriller. “So my biggest fear is delays that could get in the way of making it to something for my kids.”

The actress, however, has toned down things from before she was a parent when she was game to get up and go anywhere in the world at any time.

“I love being home with [my kids], and I’ve been so lucky to have the flexibility to be home a lot,” Garner told PEOPLE in 2021. “But I miss the days of going on location and will be excited to just be like, ‘Yeah, you want me in North Carolina? You want me in Budapest? You want me in Paris? Yes! I can do all those things.’ I feel like I’ll zip around a little.”

Though Garner has had to adapt her career to be a mom, she doesn’t feel any guilt about the decision to continue to work. She can fully disconnect from work when she is with her kids and be fully present as their mom.

“Working moms…get all freaked out because we’re told constantly, ‘You have 18 summers, you have this much time…Time is fleeting.’ It makes you panic,” she told Access Hollywood.

“If you come from a place of expansiveness instead of feeling just like, ‘I can’t be a mom because I’m also working and I’m supposed to be guilty all the time,’ you better just lean into wherever you are, any day, right now, just be there when your kids show up and we’ll have a great time,” Garner continued.

Finding unique ways to connect with her children, Garner also asks them for advice when shooting movies that are relevant to them. During the release of her newest movie, FAMILY SWITCH, last November, Garner told PEOPLE that her kids helped her prepare for the role.

“You’re turning the volume up so much because it’s all so exaggerated,” Garner said. “But yes, I definitely went to my teens and asked a bunch of questions. They were all like, ‘Mom, you’re crazy.’”

Movieguide® previously reported on Garner:

“My mom has always said to me, ‘You’re their mom forever. Don’t worry, you can do your job. You’re their mom forever. I wish I had worked. I would have been a better mom. Your kids are going to be so proud of you,’” Garner said, per Page Six.

The actress co-founded Once Upon a Farm, an organic food company designed to help busy moms.

“Moms get how hard it is,” Garner told PEOPLE of moms’ desire to feed their kids healthy food. “We just want to make life easier for them and give them food they can trust and don’t have to stress over.”

Garner emphasized, though, that moms don’t need to strive for perfection.
