Texas Rangers Outfielder Evan Carter Declares ‘Life is Bigger Than Baseball’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter is on a mission to spread the Gospel.

Carter joined the Rangers last season and helped the team win the 2023 World Series.

“It was really cool getting on this team this fall and seeing how we can play for one another. To us, life is bigger than baseball, it’s for God,” the athlete said, per Sports Spectrum.

While at a men’s conference at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Texas, Carter encouraged over 2,100 men to boldly proclaim the Good News despite living in a chaotic world.

“I think it’s getting increasingly hard to step out in today’s world,” he said. “It’s a little awkward for me to ask a guy who is 20 years older if he wants to go to chapel, but that’s the platform God has given me and for all of us. We have to share God’s love with other people and not take it for granted. For me, my life is bigger than baseball and this platform is great.”

Carter drew widespread attention for wearing a shirt that read “Jesus Won” during interviews and practices, as Movieguide® reported.

In October, the outfielder partnered with FCA and announced that fans could get their own “Jesus Won” shirts.

“Our mission is to use the platform that baseball has blessed us with to give back to our community in Carter County, TN. Proceeds from your purchase of a Jesus Won t-shirt will jointly benefit two incredible programs in our community,” he said.

He raised over $100,000.

“Thank you to everyone who has purchased a Jesus Won shirt. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to raise over $100K to be split evenly between the Elizabethton Cyclone Dugout Club for an indoor batting facility for all of Carter County, Central Community Christian Church’s community outreach program, Central Cares, and the FCA,” Carter posted on Instagram. “These all hold a special place in our lives and we are blessed to be in the position to give back to a few places who have helped shape me in to the man and player I am today.”

Carter has committed to using his platform to share the Gospel. His journey to the MLB wasn’t straightforward, though. He originally planned to play college baseball at Duke, but the Rangers approached him about playing in the minor league before they drafted him into the MLB 2020.

“With COVID, it got a little uncertain, but when you have something to say about what you love, He will always give you a way to reach out and spread the Word of God. You never know what God is going to do, so don’t give up on your dream,” Carter explained.

Movieguide® previously reported on Carter’s shirt proceeds:

A few days ago, Carter donated all $70,000 earned from shirt sales.

In an interview with WJHL, Carter said, “My wife [Kaylen] came up with the idea, and the next thing you know, 50 days later, here we are presenting some really big checks to people. And just it’s unbelievable how many people have come together to help us out, and God works in mysterious ways, man. This is really cool.”

“It’s spreading throughout the whole organization,” Carter said of the shirt and the message. “People who have never really tried to be a part of the Christian faith or anything, or part of a group like that, saw the shirts and started asking questions. It’s just a great opportunity for us to kind of share our faith and spread the Word a little bit.”
