Raiders Kicker Daniel Carlson Declares Christ is His ‘Foundation’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson spoke with Jason Romano of Sports Spectrum about his faith in Jesus Christ.
“He’s everything,” Carlson began to say when asked what Jesus means to him. “Obviously, He’s my foundation. It was fun going through this Easter season. It’s always a reminder of, you know, the sacrificial love He poured out.”
He and his wife, Katherine, share three kids. Carlson explained that when they had kids, it was easier for him to understand the love of God.
“I think when you have a kid, it’s a little easier to understand that unconditional love of a father to a son or a daughter,” Carlson explained. “We have a 10-day-old baby in the house now, and going through Easter season was just a fun reminder of wow. Like seeing that baby being born and then thinking there’s nothing in the world that this baby could do that could stop me from loving it.”
He continued: “That’s how Christ and God love us and see us — as sons and daughters. And no matter how far we step away from, you know, His purpose and His plan in our life, we just screw up and mess up, over and over again, He still just looks at us and says, ‘I love you.'”

When the Carlsons’ newest baby was born, the kicker shared a photo on Instagram and wrote in the caption, “This Easter the Carlson family had a little extra to celebrate! God is good and He is risen! Also, welcome Jack Vilhelm Carlson to the world!”
Carlson is a two-time All-Pro kicker and was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft. He was selected by the “Minnesota Vikings, but after just two games played, he was released. He was picked up about a month later by the Raiders, and in 2021 led the NFL with 40 field goals made. In 2022, he set an NFL record for most 50-plus-yard field goals made in a season with 11.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Carlson:
On Monday night, the Raiders defeated the Green Bay Packers, but for the Carlson brothers, they both won.
Rookie Anders Carlson is the placekicker for the Packers, and his brother, Daniel Carlson, is a six-year returner and a two-time All-Pro placekicker for the Raiders.
The brothers kicked against each other in the game, marking the first time that’s happened in 36 years.
Before the game, Anders told ESPN, “To compete all our lives and finally play in a game where we’re actually wearing jerseys and competing against each other, it’s going to be awesome.”
Both brothers hold their faith in high esteem.
After, Anders shared a photo of him and his brother on the field. The placekicker wrote, “Who woulda thought… Psalm 9:1”
