Ravens Head Coach Leads Team in Lord’s Prayer: ‘Victory Belongs’ to God

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh makes sure his team remembers where their priority is.

A postgame video shows Harbaugh in the locker room with the team as he offers them a word of encouragement and leads them in The Lord’s Prayer.

“I wrote this before the game. Can you read that? Can you read my writing?” he said, handing a piece of paper to a player who reads, “Victory belongs to the Lord.”

Harbaugh continued, “No matter what. No matter what. If you do your part, you keep fighting, you don’t know what’s going to happen, but something like this can’t happen if you didn’t keep believing, if you didn’t keep fighting, it wouldn’t happen. That’s two wins, we’re one plus now. We’re not one minus. We’re one plus in the division on the road. You can’t take that away. Because you kept believing, you kept fighting, right? Because you kept believing, kept fighting, so we’re going to enjoy 24 wonderful, beautiful hours, right? And then we’ll get locked right back in.”

After this, Harbaugh led his team into The Lord’s Prayer, which comes from Luke 11:1-4:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

The Ravens beat the Cincinnati Bengals in a 41-38 overtime win on Sunday, and they’re on track to break a major NFL record.

“Not only are the Ravens leading the league in rushing by a country mile, but they’re on a historic pace,” Sports Illustrated said. “Baltimore’s 2019 team rushed for 823 yards through four games and went on to set an NFL record with 3,296 rushing yards. The 2024 team has rushed for 881 yards through four games and is on pace to rush for 3,744 yards on the season.”

“Following Week 5, the Ravens and Steelers are tied for the AFC North lead at 3-2, with Baltimore owning the tiebreaker thanks to a divisional win. The Bengals and Browns are still in the basement at 1-4 amidst challenging seasons,” the outlet noted in a separate article.

Movieguide® previously reported on Harbaugh’s faith:

Harbaugh is frequently open about his faith. In an interview with Sports Spectrum, he reflected on how he’s learned to trust God’s plan.

“Really, it comes down to trust, I do believe,” he said on Sports Spectrum’s podcast. “I trust providence. I trust God’s will, His plan. As much as anything, try to put it in His hands because when you look back, you can see where He’s brought you.”

Through the ups and downs of his career, Harbaugh’s brother, Jim, says the coach “never lost” his faith.

“His relationship with God is the thing he leans on whenever he has tough times,” Jim said. “When he didn’t get a job, he would say, ‘God has a different plan for me.’”
