Actor Russell Brand recently used the major hurricanes that hit Florida as an opportunity to reflect on his relationship with the Lord.

“It is worth thinking how the metaphor of the storm affects us all like animals,” Brand began to say in the video. “I think we can all feel there is something unusual happening. I pray for the people in Tampa, Sarasota, and all those that are affected elsewhere directly by the storm.

“In storms in our own lives,” he continued, “I was told from Matthew that when the Apostles were dealing with a storm, Peter first asks when he sees out Lord on the water, ‘Is that you?’ And you don’t get out of the boat until you know it’s Jesus. Until you know it’s the Lord saying, ‘Yes. Come.’ If he says ‘Yes’ then you can get out of the boat. But unlike Peter, once you’re out of the boat, you’ve got to keep your eyes fixed on the Lord because if you take your eyes off Jesus the storm could devour you.

“The storm, I suppose, is a demonstration of the almighty power that is beyond our control,” Brand finished. “As a metaphor it helps me to understand that I must listen and watch for Christ. That I must not make moves that are not directed by Him and I must keep my eyes in Him.”

The event in the Bible that Brand is referring to is Matthew 14:22-33, which reads:

Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Brand committed his life to Christ earlier this year and continually uses his fame to promote the Gospel.

Movieguide® previously reported on Brand’s baptism:

Actor and comedian Russell Brand has decided to put his faith and trust in the Lord and was baptized over the weekend.

“Yesterday, I got baptized, and it was an incredible, profound experience,” he said in an X video posted Monday.

He described how, in the past, he sought tranquility, peace and transcendence through substances. But “something occurred in the process of baptism that was incredible, overwhelming…I felt changed, transitioned,” he explained.

“I feel as if some new resource within me has switched on…this is my path now, and I already feel incredibly blessed, relieved, nourished, held…this is new to me, and it’s a joy to me,” Brand added.
