THE CHICKEN SISTERS has been renewed for a second season!
“CHICKEN SISTERS FOREVER,” star Genevieve Angelson posted on her Instagram story, along with a screenshot of the Season 2 confirmation.
THE CHICKEN SISTERS, based on a 2020 book of the same name, premiered last year on the Hallmark+ streaming service. Now, Season 2 will air on Hallmark Channel, with new episodes hitting Hallmark+ the following day.
“We’re grateful to Annie Mebane for creating the series for television and expertly bringing to life the town of Merinac and its colorful characters in K.J. Dell’Antonia’s beloved book,” Samantha DiPippo, the Senior Vice President of Programming at Hallmark Media, told Deadline.
She continued, “The show is in great hands with Erin Gibson taking the reins as showrunner this season and we know that our stellar cast led by Schuyler Fisk, Genevieve Angelson, Lea Thompson and Wendie Malick will serve up something special for viewers.”
Gibson won’t be the only new face on set. Deadline confirmed JAG star David James Elliott will join the cast in Season 2.

THE CHICKEN SISTERS follows two rival chicken restaurants in a small town. Tensions only get worse when a food competition show comes to town and pits the restaurants against each other.
Angelson plays Mae, whose mother, Augusta, owns one of the chicken restaurants. Instead of following in the family tradition, though, Mae left town to be a TV host in New York. After hearing of the TV competition, she decides to return home to the life and family she left behind years before.
“I think that my character in particular tells a distinct story because she has sort of a shameful relationship to her past,” Angelson told Southern Living. “And so much of her identity is founded upon being a New Yorker now. I think what you’ll see over the course of the season is the ways in which she sort of rewrites her relationship to things about being from the South that she really loves.”
Schuyler Fisk plays Amanda, Mae’s sister and a defector to their mother’s rival, Nancy. Amanda married the son of Augusta’s competition and now works at Nancy’s chicken restaurant.
“I feel like people can really identify with the [idea that] people you love the most, you can hurt the most. And you can get the most mad at,” Fisk told Southern Living. “But it’s because you love them so much and you care.”
She continued, “Those relationships are really complicated and really complex and I just love that the show is going there. Nothing is simple. It’s not glassed over. These are complicated relationships with complex women. Strong women. They’re all coming from something. From somewhere. They all have a backstory that informs why these relationships are the way they are. It’s been really fun to sort of uncover those backstories and find where this all came from and how we can figure it out.”
Fans of THE CHICKEN SISTERS are ecstatic that the show is coming back for a second season and can’t wait to see what new drama is in store!
