Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love joined the “Faith on the Field” podcast to discuss how he puts God first and serves others.

“There’s a bigger meaning to life,” he said of wearing an “I Am Second” bracelet, a constant reminder to love God and people. “It’s about touching people’s lives, not just focusing on our own.”

“I am second is a nice daily reminder, to put others first, put God first, life’s not always about you, it’s a nice reminder to have,” he said previously.

Love also opened up about the personal tragedy that inspired his foundation, Hands of 10ve, which is focused on the mental health of children in sports.

“Mental health is a huge proponent of the foundation that I started and the work that we do,” Love told Faith on the Field’s Rob Maaddi. “It has a huge impact on my life because my father took his own life. We’re trying to bring awareness that whatever job you do, whatever age you are, everybody has things that they go through, and there are different challenges of mental health factors that play into people’s lives. So, just bringing awareness to it and being that platform that people can come share their story to our foundation, and we spotlight some of those things.”

On his website, Love describes his father’s death as “the biggest loss of my life.”

“I was encouraged to remain in sports, and I was blessed to have mentors guide me and keep my own mental health in check,” the athlete added.

The mission of Hands of 10ve “is to inspire and empower children from all backgrounds to engage in sports, promoting physical and mental well-being. We also aim to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention, and foster stronger relationships between law enforcement and the community,” the website explains.

Love and the foundation recently hosted “their 3rd annual hometown community youth football camp in Bakersfield. Making memories and changing lives one kid at a time!” He was able to gift a $10,000 check to the camper of the day.

May is mental health awareness month, and Love’s foundation teamed up with Rawhide Youth Services, which provides “youth counseling, therapy, and residential treatment for teens and young adults.”

“Rawhide’s mission is to help hurting and at-risk youth discover the hope of a healthy and fulfilling life. For the entire month of May, 100% of donations made to this campaign will be matched up to $15,000,” the Hands of 10ve website said.

Whether on the field or working with kids, Love always remembers that he is second.
