Former wrestler Lex Luger praised God as he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by friend Diamond Dallas Page.

“We’re not just here to celebrate the impact that Lex Luger had on our business. We are also here to honor a transformation, a rebirth,” Page said during his introduction speech.

Page explained, “When Lawrence Pfohl [Luger] came into this world, it seemed like God gave him every gift in the book. For all the legends he faced in the ring, nothing compared to the battle he faced outside of it. And as the story is told, the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.”

In 2007, Lex Luger suffered a nerve impingement in his neck that led to temporary paralysis. He eventually regained limited mobility, but by 2021, had become completely reliant on a wheelchair.

“Lex had lost his physical gifts from God,” Page said. “[But] Lex realized that strength isn’t something you show in the spotlight. Real strength is something you build in the shadows.”

He continued, “He let go of his ego and surrendered to something much bigger. He found purpose in pain. He chose faith over fear, hope over despair, [and] conviction over regret.”

Luger then took the stage — standing on his own two feet. Earlier this year, after working with Page on yoga rehabilitation, Luger regained the ability to stand up from his wheelchair.

“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me,” Lex Luger recited for the audience. “I once was lost, but now I’m found, was blind, but now I see.”

In a pre-recorded interview, Luger praised his friend, saying, “God gave [Dallas] a gift of kindness and thoughtfulness and empathy for others. I believe that’s God’s purpose for his life.”

“I’m just so thankful,” he said in his induction speech. “I’m just so grateful.”

Luger spoke about his injury and what led him to “rock bottom” during an appearance on  Uncrowned’s THE ARIEL HELWANI SHOW.

“I went down that path with drugs and alcohol and excess, and really made a lot of bad decisions. I was a stubborn one, and I wouldn’t listen to anybody, I wouldn’t get the help. I always thought I could fix anything,” he explained. “I was also supremely, some would say, an arrogant individual.”

Luger continued, “You hear in terms of rock bottom, end of your rope — I had to reach the point where I was in such a bad way … where I said, ‘I can’t fix this.’ God allowed me to be totally broken down…I was at that point. I was at the breaking point where I was broken enough to look up rather than around, and I think I had to fix it, because I was the problem.”

In an interview with CBN, Luger recalled his moment of redemption: “When I said the sinner’s prayer, all that hate and grief and despair and depression and everything I was going through in my life felt like it got lifted off me. And when Jesus gave me that supernatural Holy Spirit inside of me, I thought I was going to explode!”

Lex Luger’s story is a reminder that even when we are at our lowest, God is still working in incredible ways in our lives.
