CBS’ S.W.A.T. was cancelled for less than 48 hours before lead actor Shemar Moore announced that he will return in a new spinoff series called EXILES.

“To all my homies, fans, and baby girls…to everybody out there around the world who have supported us for eight years, first of all, thank you. We couldn’t have done this without you,” Moore said in a video shared by Sony Pictures Television.

“I know the sad news is we got canceled, but the good news is we don’t stop fighting. And guess what happens when you don’t stop fighting? We won! S.W.A.T. ain’t going nowhere! Hondo ain’t going nowhere!” he added. “Hondo back in the building! S.W.A.T. back in the building! Say it loud, say it proud: S.W.A.T. and Hondo back in the building!”

Executive producer Shawn Ryan also took to social media and expressed his excitement for the upcoming series.

“S.W.A.T. universe was dead for less than 48 hours. So thrilled for Shemar and our crew. Can’t wait to see what they do with this…” Ryan wrote on X.

According to Deadline, S.W.A.T. EXILES will pick up “after a high-profile mission goes sideways.”

“Hondo is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits,” the synopsis continues. “Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is.”

No other cast members have been announced. Sony Pictures Television will produce the series.

Moore is thrilled that he gets to bring a new story to life.

“My eight seasons on S.W.A.T. have been epic and memorable. We entertained the world, defied the odds, came back from the dead twice, and continued to woo fans and families worldwide. I am excited for this next generation and iteration of S.W.A.T. with Sony,” he said.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring the next chapter of S.W.A.T. to life — both for our incredibly dedicated fans of the original franchise and for a new generation of viewers,” SPT Studios President, Katherine Pope, added. “We’re grateful to our incredible partners Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Jason Ning and Shemar Moore for embarking on this journey with us. This team’s commitment to the global fanbase, to our beloved crew and to our city runs deep!”

Though fans almost had to say goodbye to S.W.A.T. and Hondo, EXILES is sure to be another favorite. No released date has been shared.
