More Detail:
TRAIL HACKS: WITH THE WILD BROTHERS is a camping documentary series distributed by Angel Studios. It follows four brothers who grew up doing Christian missionary work in the jungles of Indonesia. In season 1, Morgan, Hudson, Kian, and Asher Wild go on a trip to a remote island of Florida. Together, the brothers explain how to set up tents and start campfires and how their field of work relates to God’s teachings. Will the brother be able to survive a day in the pits of Florida?
Season 1 of TRAIL HACKS: WITH THE WILD BROTHERS chronicles the Wild Brothers as they hike a remote island in Florida. The Wild Brothers–are four polite teenagers who grew up doing missionary work in Indonesia. Each brother explains crucial survival tips, such as how to tie secure knots, set up campfires, and efficiently ride a two-person canoe. They also discuss how God’s teachings personally influenced their lives.
In terms of production value, TRAIL HACKS knocks it out of the wilderness. The series is filmed in a “handheld camera / amateur YouTube vlog” style. TRAIL HACKS makes it work with solid editing and varied camerawork. The four brothers have a keen eye for tree close-ups, river drone shots, and easy-to-read shot composition regarding the camping activities. Even more impressive, TRAIL HACKS was primarily shot and edited by the Wild Brothers themselves. This remarkable effort also reflects their strong moral compass.
TRAIL HACKS holds a moral worldview as durable as a wooden canoe. The Wild Brothers are associated with Trail Life USA, an American non-profit that teaches boys how to survive in the wilderness. The four brothers engage in teamwork, being responsible with their camping gear and reflecting on God’s teachings in the wilderness. In all six episodes, the brothers mention that “God is my refuge,” “He calls on us Christians to persevere,” and “Jesus wants his fishermen to be Fishers of Men.” The brothers do not pray, but they encourage viewers to proclaim the Bible to others openly. However, there is one slight moral wrinkle.
The series is free of sex, nudity, and foul language. However, there is one scene of a Wild Brother slicing open the body of a captured trout fish. The boy cuts the meat off the trout, with small pockets of blood and other organs oozing out. As the boy cooks the fish, he has a revelation about the concept of “original sin” and “dying” as a consequence of that revelation. He does not want to kill the trout, but he concludes that God wants him and his brothers not to take God’s creatures and graces for granted. This scene is brief, but it is a standout moment in an otherwise tame series.
