FIXER TO FABULOUS star Jenny Marrs continues to grapple with grief in the wake of the recent deaths of loved ones.
“I haven’t slept well the last two weeks. Grief seeps in at night most acutely, once I slow down from the day’s activity,” she recently posted on Instagram. “Each day is a disorienting experience — life continues to move forward as I am simply trying to reconcile my deep heartache with the sunshine out the window and the pressing demands on my time.”
Marrs announced the death of her mother-in-law, husband Dave Marrs’ mom, in a September Instagram post.

“I hope I can live out my life in the steps of my beloved Mother-in-law, Donna,” she wrote. “She taught me how to live and love well. She taught me how to be the kind of mother-in-law and the kind of grandmother who I can’t even begin to imagine this earth without. The world lost one of the brightest lights I’ve ever known and I hope to honor her legacy well.”
Marrs continued, “Well done, Donna. Well done. You never wavered in your love or your faith. We don’t know how to move forward here without you but I promise we will try our best. We will hold tight to the hope set before us. We love you so so so so so so much. No words will ever be enough.”
The HGTV star also lost a close friend, her neighbor Jill, this summer.
“Just four months after we said goodbye to her beloved and our dear Bob, we find ourselves wading again in the shocking waves of grief as we mourn the earth-side loss of our Jill,” Marrs wrote. “I was texting her from Italy with photos from our trip because she loves to hear about our adventures and we dreamt of going together someday. And, now, I’m having a very hard time grappling with the reality that her and Bob’s home stands empty, her cat is at my doorstep looking for food (of course, our home is now her home) and my dear, creative, joyful, fun, full of life, friend is gone.”
She continued, “I know she is no longer in pain and I’m grateful for the promise of Peace for eternity. She and Bob are smiling big together, again. Rest in peace, my friend. I’ll miss you down here.”
While Marrs is still struggling with grief, she has taken comfort in the words of her own book, Trust God, Love People.
A recently-shared audio clip features Marrs saying, “Farm life can be both beautiful and brutal. That day was certainly one of the hardest days. While we’ve witnessed hundreds of joy-filled miracles here on this little patch of land, we’ve also experienced deep grief. On that cold and dreary morning, I knew it was okay to sit in the grief while wholly anticipating the joy.”
“Despite the hard, God is always only good,” she reminded readers.
Marrs’ recent losses have hit her hard, but the HGTV star finds solace in her faith, as well as the knowledge that her loved ones are in a better place.
