The release revealed that Disney+ users can expect a “fully integrated unified app experience” in 2026 but that they will continue to implement “further integrations” in the coming months.
Disney also announced some interface changes to its streaming platform, including a new navigation bar, more personalized recommendations and a “dynamic” homepage that will help subscribers find what they’re looking for more quickly.
Disney announced this integration in August following the July finalization of the purchase of Hulu. The company paid $8.6 billion for Comcast’s 33% stake in the streamer, giving them 100% ownership in Hulu, valued at $27.5 billion.
“We are pleased this is finally resolved. We have had a productive partnership with NBCUniversal, and we wish them the best of luck,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement.
A Comcast spokesperson shared, “Hulu was a great start for us in streaming that generated nearly $10 billion in proceeds for Comcast and created an important audience for NBCUniversal’s world-class content. We wish Disney well with Hulu and appreciate the cooperative way our teams managed the partnership.”
In a joint statement, Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston said, “Today we are announcing a major step forward in strengthening our streaming offering by fully integrating Hulu into Disney+. This will create an impressive package of entertainment, pairing the highest-caliber brands and franchises, great general entertainment, family programming, news and industry-leading live sports content in a single app.”
“By creating a truly differentiated streaming offering, we will be providing subscribers tremendous choice, convenience, quality, and enhanced personalization,” the statement continued. “This will enhance our ability to continue to grow profitability and margins in our entertainment streaming business through expected higher engagement, lower churn, and advertising revenue potential, as well as operational efficiencies that over time may result in savings that we can reinvest back into the business.”
Disney’s move to fully integrate Hulu into their platform is part of a growing trend as more and more streamers partner up for bundle packages. Time will tell if other streaming services take a cue from Disney!
