PBS announced its plans to expand SUPER WHY’S COMIC BOOK ADVENTURE into a full series after debuting the project as a series of shorts in 2023.
“SUPER WHY’S COMIC BOOK ADVENTURES supports literacy and reading skills through fun and fresh stories that will immediately draw kids into the vibrant world and characters that our viewers have come to know and love,” said Sara Dewitt, senior vice president and general manager of PBS Kids. “We’re delighted to bring this multiplatform series to ‘super readers’ across the country next year.”
“We regularly hear that SUPER WHY! Has been hugely helpful in teaching kids foundational reading skills and remains a valuable resource for parents, caregivers and teachers,” added Coral Schoug, vice president of production for Brown Bag Films. “We’re thrilled to introduce the latest SUPER WHY! Series and help further support children’s early literacy development in ways that are fun and effective.”

The series is a spinoff from SUPER WHY!, which ran on PBS Kids between 2007 and 2016. Recent research has shown that literacy among young children has been on the decline in recent years, and SUPER WHY’S COMIC BOOK ADVENTURES hopes to play a hand in reversing this trend.
PBS has been working hard as of late to meet children where they are at to continue to provide them with important lessons about critical life skills. In September, the network announced it would launch a video games series to provide kids with a safe place to consume this type of content.
“In each episode, they host the show from different Odd Squad precincts and communicate through two video chat windows, helping each other get the most out of a game from the PBS Kids universe,” a description of the series, “Odd Squad Gaming,” reads, per Variety. “The core of the show is the hosts interacting with each other, playing and reacting to both the game and one another.”
Meanwhile, the network has also worked hard to keep its shows accessible for kids by refraining from incorporating visuals that are too overstimulating for kids. In the past decade, kids’ content has trended towards extremely stimulating shows to keep kids attention for as long as possible. This, however, has negative long term effects and harms their attention spans.
It is encouraging to see PBS continue to take its role as an educational entertainment provider seriously as it seeks to address the problems facing those growing up in America today. The full SUPER WHY’S COMIC BOOK ADVENTURE series will release in 2026.
