The Worship Initiative, a discipleship group formed by worship group Shane & Shane, just launched SBC Worship, a collaborative organization aiming to unify worship leaders across the Southern Baptist Convention.
“It’s been great,” Robbie Seay, executive vice president of leader development and content at The Worship Initiative, said of the launch, via the Baptist Press. “We’ve had thousands of churches sign up. We’ve got events scheduled. We’ve got webinars. We’re featuring the writings and the trainings from across SBC life. And it really is a unique collaboration of leaders.”
SBC Worship will serve as a place where people can find training, resources and events, all approved by trusted voices from seminaries, churches and universities within the SBC.
In an interview with the Christian Post, Seay shared, “There is more collaboration in the SBC than ever before. Seminaries, universities, state leaders and churches are partnering together to serve local worship leaders in a way that is unprecedented.”
He continued, “We celebrate the diversity of our churches…This is about worship leader development and support.”
Singer Shane Barnard previously told The Christian Post that he and bandmate Shane Everett’s passion is “just to care for these folks who are on the front lines of ministry.”

“We don’t honestly have a ton of cultural thoughts. Our thought is: Lord, in all these scenarios where pastors are tired, exhausted, ready to give up — how can we just push them to Jesus?” he said. “We want to help eliminate distractions. Singing on key, playing the right notes — those things help people engage with the Word…We just want to get this Word into song and let the Lord do what He does.”
Everett added, “Most churches in America have fewer than 200 people. So we ask: how can we serve those folks showing up every week who need to be reminded of who they are in Jesus?”
“This has been — most of their adult life — it’s been their work,” Seay said of Shane & Shane. “They founded The Worship Initiative. Our aim is the local church. Our aim is the men and women who are leading worship. We exist to equip and encourage the local church. For Shane & Shane, this is just another way for them to love and to serve the church.”
Shane & Shane’s new worship initiative is an incredible way to unite churches around the world.
