Snoop Dogg criticized the entertainment industry after watching a movie with his grandson led to an awkward question about same-sex relationships.

“Why my grandson in the middle of the movie like, ‘Papa Snoop, how she have a baby with a woman? She a woman.’ Oh [expletive], I didn’t come in for this [expletive],” Snoop Dogg said of watching the movie LIGHTYEAR with his grandson. “I’m scared to go to the movies. Like, y’all throwing me in the middle of [expletive] that I don’t have an answer for.”

“It threw me for a loop. I’m like what part of the movie was this? These are kids that we have to show that at this age like, they’re going to ask questions,” the rapper continued. “They are going to ask. I didn’t have an answer. And I was just there to go to sleep and watch the movie.”

LIGHTYEAR, in particular, was guilty of pushing an agenda, which lead to its commercial failure despite coming from an extremely popular franchise. Since then, Disney has begun to distance itself from agenda-driven projects, with CEO Bob Iger claiming they will solely focus on providing entertaining content. A portion of Movieguide®’s review of LIGHTYEAR reads:

LIGHTYEAR constantly places obstacles in Buzz’s way. The obstacles make an exciting story. However, Buzz isn’t really the hero of this story. His lesbian friend, Alisha, is the real hero. Eventually, it’s her life that inspires Buzz, her granddaughter and everyone else. Thus, the whole movie becomes a validation of LGBT ideology and an attack on masculinity and the biblical view of family. LIGHTYEAR also taints the TOY STORY franchise, because it says the politically correct movie became Andy’s favorite movie.

Even if Disney is past blatantly promoting a certain agenda through its content, many others in the industry are not. This is why Movieguide® exists — so parents, guardians and grandparents like Snoop Dogg do not expose their kids to content they are not ready to talk about. Had he visited Movieguide®’s review of LIGHTYEAR, he would have seen that LIGHTYEAR promoted LGBTQ+ content, and even if he still chose to watch the movie, he would at least have had time to prepare himself for a conversation.

Beyond content-focused reviews, Movieguide® also offers parents guides on how to understand if the movies and shows they let their kids watch are appropriate for them, along with how to have a conversation with your kids about being mindful about the content they are consuming in general.

Movieguide® encourages people of all ages to analyze entertainment to understand the worldview and morals it teaches. Ultimately, the content we consume heavily influences our own worldview, so if we are not primarily watching Christian-rooted TV shows and movies, it will be difficult to maintain a Christian worldview ourselves. Children are even more susceptible to this influence as they are still learning what values are important to them and how to live them out.

Thus, visiting Movieguide®’s reviews before watching a TV show or movie – especially with your kids – allows you to ensure you are watching edifying content that will build up your Christian worldview, rather than tear it down.
